I have a few patterns for naming things when I take the time to do so.

Planets: Named after Sci-fi planets or regions of the world that match the planet type.

TEC: I don't often rename my TEC caps, but when I do, I name them after Greco-Roman military terms (Balista, Gladius, etc.)

Advent: Trippy names related to Psychedelic Trance Music.

Vasari: They have their own language, why would I be renaming their stuff?

I don't usually rename stuff but if I did I would probably go with things like:

Ragnorak: Large Hadron Collider

Ankylon: Stegosaurus or Triceratops or Mecha-Armadillo-Chan

Eradica: Avalokitesvara or Asura

I generally don't bother renaming my ships and planets. I will sometimes, but the 11 character limit annoys me.

Planets I'll just name randomly dependent on what mood takes me at the time. Some times it could be a Sci-Fi planet name, other times a name I've used previously in a story I wrote for fun, and other times just some random name that takes my fancy at the time, or that randomly popped into my head.

TEC Ships I'll generally name after great leaders or explorers [Explorers more for the Akkan's]:

Washington

Columbus

Napoleon

Caesar

Nelson

ect.

Advent... I leave as is. Their names are generally fitting enough.

Vasari, as Goa said, have there own language. I have no need to rename their ships.

I tend to use mythology or demonology for ship names...  and Sci-Fi names for planets... but usually more obscure ones... something from Dune perhaps.... depends on what mood I'm in...

Never really gave any thought to starbases before....  hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Lol, I was thinking of Norse mythology names like Mjolnir for Titans when making my post above and noticed I'd typed Ragnarok (The battle of gods at the end of the world) instead of Ragnarov - I imagine they lifted that name from the Norse one anyway though.

Considering which Titan it is... I think Ragnarok is a good name!!!  One jumps into a gravity well and it might just be the end of their world... lol....

I have never renamed anything in this game.. I just want to kill stuff, end the game quickly and consider renaming like a waste of micro even though it is not my a mile. Bad rts habits. I promise from now on i will try enjoy the moment and may name my caps and titans after the 12 cylon models.

Caprica

D'Anna

Cavil

John

leoben

Simon

Sharon

Saul

Galen

Sam

Ellen

Tory

I may then go as far as naming after Jesus's 12 desciples except for the betrayer Judas. Though most of the names of the Cylon models are the same as in the bible. (BSG and its intrinsic details lol).

Isn't one of the default Advent ship names Celestia? I found that to be a strange coincidence.

It's a conspiracy....Now if we saw Luna as well, then that would clinch it.

Player Name:  (SP) Sadrekkan 3rd Fleet

Homeworld: Sadrekka

Capitol Ships:  1st Kol:  SilverDawn  1st Marza:  Black Zion  1st Sova:  Twi Storm(Because Twilight Storm won't fit...)

The rest are pretty much random.  Gonna need a good one for my Ankylon though...Would like to go with Crimson Eclipse...but nooooo...

I wish they'd upgrade to 16 characters...it'd open up a lot of possibilities...

Doesn't bother me cause I have a boyfriend, and he is prolly more into the ponies than me. Plus he loves gaming and playing Sins as well, so yeah :p

The avatar makes me believe him...

Anyway, I like to call my titan "The Graper", but that's about it...

I think about what each capital ship's emphasis is, and boil that down into one or two words, and translate those words into Latin, because Latin is Epic.

For the Marza Dreadnought,  a good one is Addo Incendia, meaning "to bring fire" or "I brought fire".

For colonizers I use Colonia.  Pretty self-explanatory.

For the carriers I use Addo Effervo, which means "To bring swarms", or "I brought swarms".

Stuff like that.

I never really bothered with naming since I play SP all the time. One thing is for certain, though, if I did name them I can guarantee ou they will all be retarded/goofy names. :p

I play single player more than anything, but I still name them, because its 2x as epic.
