Just got an idea about multiplayer and that! (queue system)

OK, let´s get things straight.

Everyday i watch the number of players at steam, specifically how many are playing rebellion. Sometimes I see like 800 players, but then i get to Ico and there are like 90-100.

WE all know only around a 15% of the playerbase plays online. How we could fix this?

I was thinking on a queuing system which searchs for adequate multiplayer matches when you are doing something else , like playing in single player (watch out, im not talking about simple matchmaking like the one from Warcraft 3).

For example, im not going to play online now, because i´ve seen only 3 matches and i didnt liked them (2 password protected and one 2vs2), but also I don´t like to wait on ICO for a good match: i would prefer practising vs the AI, but i dont want it either because i would miss a good oportunity for playing a 3vs3 match!!! A mini-window which tingles when some people wants a 3vs3 game like me would be awesome!

Think of it like the dungeon queues from wow or rift: they are there while u do anything else ingame.

Whaddaya´think? I need some discussion here thought to fully develop this thing i have in mind.

Another thing i think the multiplayer needs to fix:

There´s too much information there. i think it´s tiring to look if the game i selected has a password or if it has free avaliable slots for everyone or for friends only. I would replace those texts with color icons (like those game options where you select game speed and stuff), because i know all of that text is important.

Multiplayer menus need more eye-candy!! : P

I'd definitely play online more if this existed.

Not to argue against simplified menus and easy-to-use features - those are certainly noble goals and attending to them may very well attract a few stragglers on the sidelines.  I can't help wondering though, what percentage of people 'not' playing on ICO at any given time have ever even seen that screen.

I'd wager there's a pretty large segment of that crowd of 800 for whom this situation is outright unfixable simply because that isn't why they bought the game.

Mmm that´s also true. Maybe the mayority of players only plays this game for relaxed AI games.

honestly i'd take the OP suggestion a bit further and have a full on battle.net type of ranking/matching system.

Steam should provide this resource for their RTS games, imo.  Get on valve Starclad! :)

I agree that something is wrong in that picture, but it's not the amount of detail that people can see for a given game's settings.  (There's nothing wrong with having information and dumbing it down would move the game in the direction of consolization.)

What's wrong with that photo is that for the game you selected, two guys have opted to play vs. AI instead of vs. two other people.  If all the people who only play vs AI would play against each other, they could play against human players with a similar skill level.
