Hello! About Culture vs Military

Hi! This is my first post : D.

First of all I really like this game, and i was playing TEC about half a month and now im playing Advent coz´I like their support-focus thing.

Now I have a little doubt.

I know pro-players knows how to make powerful military armies and that thing, u know. The thing is... Can anyone with a developed culture-based tech have a good face 2 face vs someone with a strong military tech?

I mean, I really like how i don´t EVEN touch the enemy capital, and it has its allegiance slowly dropping to zero coz´of my awesomeness advent-fanatic-culture spreading all around the galaxy >: D.

Did i expressed myself well? Im sorry for my language! I do know little English ^^

Culture is rarely very significant in competitive games. Military will always trump culture. Sure, you might have built 4 culture structures and have gotten all of the culture research upgrades, but a halfway decent enemy will just warp in and bomb out your structures and planets with their superior fleet.

Fleet firepower trumps nearly everything. Although culture can sometimes be useful for choking out an entrenched enemy in a pocket on their homeworld, it's not very significant otherwise. Cultural research upgrades are also quite expensive, both in terms of research costs and in terms of civic labs needed.

Note that I'm considering games against decent opponents, not games against the AI who has no idea what it's doing. (Defending against culture is relatively easy anyway, in combination with a capital ship or two and/or a pocket asteroid for logistics slots)

Nope, presumably because the guy with the military will just blow the culture centers up. Culture is best used as a cheap way to increase your income, decrease your opponents, slow your opponents colonization, and for giving you some minor combat advantages. It is uncommon for the AI to lose planets to culture and quite rare that a human player will do so.

Also, when using culture, keep in mind that culture centers are expensive and using more than one of them in a 3-lane radius isn't usually a good idea, because investing in a trade port instead would generate a bit more income while also being cheaper.

I usually just build once culture center near my homeworld, and then maybe one more on or near my front lines, but that's all.

Also, a more appropriate topic of this thread might be "Culture vs Military" rather than "Economic vs Military" - culture is very different from economy.

Culture is slow-acting and there are lots of ways to stop it.  It's not bad, but don't make it the centerpiece of your strategy.  It's more useful for boosting your own loyalty than it is for lowering enemy loyalty.

Advent in particular is militarily weak in the early-game, so you have very little leeway for non-military expenditures.

Yes ure right ^^ fixed!

So it is needed in every match to have some kind of military power to win, but you can win any game only researching military and nothing of culture-related stuff, am i right?

That´s ok : D. I would like to discuss something about this topic, but im so newbie, so im gonna still playing a much more. Thanks for the info! : p

A lot of this depends on what sort of game you're playing, which matters because it determines the amount of space between homeworlds. If you're playing one of the common 5v5 games, homeworlds are 2 to 4 phase jumps away from each other usually, and so you have to invest completely in military to fight your nearby enemy; if one of you builds 2 or 3 civic labs to get culture instead of military tech, and then researches/builds culture structures, a very large amount of funds would be used on that (like as much as a capital ship) - meaning that the person who goes military labs can often completely roll over an opponent who goes civic instead (if their homeworld is close enough to attack quickly).

On the other hand, in a more spacious game (like 1v1) (or in the eco slot in a large team game), culture often is worth it, as long as you use it sparingly - but it's useful only for slightly increasing your income and for pushing back against enemy culture, rather than as an offensive tool (usually).
