Game suggestion for planetary warfare

I love the game- previously my favourite stratagy game was Imperium Galactica because of it`s scope and many aspects. Sins of a solar empire comes close. I especially enjoy the requiem mod for entrenchment. Which brings me to planetary warfare.

I`d like 3 ways of conducting planetary warfare..

1. "Nuke it from orbit"

-if you destroy a hostile fleet and it`S defences but you`re deep in enemy territory and have no hope of holding the

planet, you can nuke it and destroy everything there. In my suggestion the planet would then be uninhabitable and

radioactive until it`s terraformed. First a timed penalty before the process of terraforming can be unertaken.

2. "Planetary bombardment"

-This is what we`re doing now. destroying everything there and killing the population.

3. "Planetary invasion"

This would leave both planet and infrastructure intact and would obviuously be the most beneficial approach if it`s a

tactically viable. This would entail either some form of limited RTS on the ground of something more extensive.

The idea is taken from star wars where ground troops are launched to destroyed planetary shield generators before a

planet can be bombarded from space. Obviously this would enhance the "planetary bombardment" option as well.

I`m not saying the first iteration of planetary invasion would have to be as extensive as in Imperium galactica, but that

the functionality could be introduced and then be expanded on by expansions and modders.

there already ARE 3 options for taking over planets.

1. Nuking it from orbit.

2. Nuking it from orbit.

3. NUKING IT FROM FRIGGEN ORBIT!!

Why would you ever need anything else?

(and, uhh, some silly culture thing... but we dont count that)

My biggest issue with bombing planets is that the planet you nuke lose all its planetary and logistics upgrades... I would prefer a system where you have to keep a capital ship around the planet until the end of a timer and then, the planet surrender to you, with all its population and planetery upgrades. You can speed the process up by bombing but then, you may lose planetary upgrades and get a temporary penalty on allegiance. You could also speed up the process by bringing more capital ships around the planet.

If you don't think you can keep the planet from a counter attack or protecting it is a bother, you could also choose to refuse the planetary surrender and bomb it until nothing remains.

1. TEC already does this with the Novalith.  Fire three shots at a planet and it's uncolonizable for 30 minutes.

2. Hurray for orbital bombardment.

3. Many have wanted this for a long time, but outside of an engine rewrite, we won't get it.

2 min, not 30 min.  30 min is the pop and trade reduction.

You're also forgetting some options, like Mass Hysteria.  That is a fun option, just watch your speaker volume.  Drain Planet is another fun option, *slurp*.

But yeah, the TEC have the option of nukes, bigger nukes, even bigger nukes, and the biggest nuke.  I.e. siege frigates, capital ships, Raze Planet, and the Novalith.

As much as I'd like to see a feature where you can make a planet uncolonizeable without playing as the TEC or using monkey-assed culture, realistically, the chances of us seeing it look something like this:

Percentage: 0%

Minimum Percentage: 0%

Maximum Percentage: 0%
