Shields and other questions about game updates

Right. i apologise if this has been answered before, bit new to sins and modding it. So far i can add a ship into sins and get it working, change its icons and bits and bobs all fine. the two things im kindof struggling with is the weapons and the shields.

Now the weapons i know you copy the text from a ship you want it to resemble and on the mesh you have dummys number like weapon-0 weapon-1 weapon-2 and this corresponds to the weapons in your text and the first weapon text gets assigned to weapon-0 example.  i'm having difficulty in getting the model to fire the weapon depending on what type of weapon it is. lasers seem to be fine but beam weapons never seem to work, and i have checked pivots on the model itsef to make sure it is in the firing arc.

The other major problem is the shields now the model i've added in is bigger than the capital ships currently in game and the shield mesh being referenced is for the model i replaced so the weapons hitting the model pass through it first to hit the shield  hich is "inside" the model.  i know i can make a new model mesh for the shield so it covers the new ship, though what texture/effects do you use to to do this as i dont want it to suddenly be given any texture and me have this big "textured" shield obscure my new ship.

The other problem i have now found is ive updated dimploacy to the latest version and even after having moved some of the mods that worked on the previous version i cant run the mods now, why is this? is there something i need to do to make them work again or what?

Thanks

I can answer this one (the other questions are based on model work which I no little about). Often times when the game is updated they make small changes to the files that mess up the older version mods. This updated removed the pirate abilities and made some changes to the player entity files. So if you messed with the pirates and/or the player entity files you will need to update those. Notepad++ has some nice features (the compare function) that can help with that.

cheers for that, still working on getting the mod to work, but what do i do about the shield mesh problem? as my ships are having their ships inside their main hull so nothing actaully hitting the hull, what do i need to do to sort the shield issuse out.

I've read about adding ships, exhuast firing points but i cant find anything that mentioning about the shields and such, surely someone must of worked out how to create a new shield mesh and how to give it the texture/shield effect.

Just resize one of the existing shield meshes?
