The main reason currents SW mods don't use death stars are:

1. Really big things don't work too well when warping into systems. Often get crashes when warping into asteroid systems and ending up stuck inside the asteroid. The common solution has been to reduce the scale of everything/expand size of gravity wells so that in comparison, ships like the executor look large.

2. You can't actually blow up planets, its hard coded into the game. The most you could do it give it a really powerful bombardment beam to clear out planets fast, but that doesn't fit in with the lore.

3. Lucasarts isn't very modder friendly, so you can't get permission to use assets from their games. If it's for personal use, doubt anyone will know, but to distribute a mod using said assets may run into legal issues.

As for actual importing of models, the sticky on the top of the page is still pretty valid. Some of the mod team members may have some more up to date suggestions though.

true on 3 bt is has been done with star wars mods for sins and as for the death star make it a starbase since it is a space station, have it as a starbase as was coded with entrenchment, also make the laser as a super weapon to bombard planets, and make it a long cool down time, and make the death star's bombard ability requires research to unlock it,it may be abit OP since the player race would have a death star as the default starbase for the empire.

From the mesh directory, copy 1 of the existing text version planet meshes and rename it to DeathStar.mesh

From the Textures directory, copy one of the planets texture sets and rename them to DeathStar-cl.dds and DeathStar-nm and DeathStar-da. These will wrap around the DeathStar.mesh sphere so just edit the textures with the metal plating look instead of the planet surface. See http://soase.weebly.com/texturing.html

Open the new DeathStar.mesh and add the new texture names. See My textures are not showing up?

Get the Resize Tool to shrink the sphere to the desired size. Very easy to use. See http://soase.weebly.com/modeling-tools.html

In terms of application it would be easier to code in a Galaxy Gun than a Death Star. Good luck with this though, even if the DS will not be in SoGE officially, there will be a good chunk of people who'd like to see and use it.

Just use a DeathStar texture of one thats two thirds built as a planet. that would give you the sense theres one in the game and add a weapons to it for defensive purposes.  you cant move it around but at least you get to look at it and protect it per say.
