Limiting spell types

Can you limit the types of spells each hero learns?

Say I want one hero to learn healing, another fire types, earth types, etc?

No, not currently.

What you can do is teach them abilities instead of spells. The only real downside is they're only usable in tactical combat.

Another work-around is to require a certain stat for casting spells, that only some champions have - like the spells use intelligence now, you can require new made-up stats instead like (UnitStat_IsFireCaster). Everyone will "learn" all the spells, but only those with the right stat will be able to cast them. Sovereigns are exempt from these limitations, unless you mod that too (which is easy).

Heaven, how do spellbooks work? Couldn't you theoreticaly use those if we have access to make/mod them?

How do you mean, use them? Unlocked spellbooks just have all their spells added to a single list.

Actualy now that I look again I think he means individual heros in the same faction. Spellbooks wouldn't help with that, but they could differentiate spells between factions, I think.

My idea was to create a Full Metal Alchemist mod. Each Alchemist would have a different ability which no others would have (flame, stone, water, etc.)

Heavenfall's suggestion of creating your own stats UnitStat_IsFireCaster etc would do what you want. The main issue is making it look good, ie not having lots of locked abilities cluttering up the user interface.

True and I had not thought of the clutter issue.
