Y not UNLocked 3v3v3 or 2v2v2's??

Why won't people play a 3v3v3 with Diplomacy? - So it becomes a 4v5, where you pick your own team.  Or a unlocked 2v2v2 becoming 3v3 of you own choice?  Rather than time consuming PUGs, which never seems to get started.  In PUGs, Nobody ever seems to want to be a captain, and then it also takes forever to pick teams.  Invariably someone will bail out because they are unhappy with their team.  Or maybe someone drops, meaning you have redo the whole proccess again.  AND smurfs ruin the whole proccess anyway!

If you start with 3 unlocked teams (not a completely unlocked FFA), you start with other teammates with a 10 relations (rather than 0).  Then there is an incentive to keep these teammates to easily form pacts with, as well as benefit from the bonuses that envoys bring.  Also, the investment that you make in them helps mainatain loyalty.  Granted, you also prefer the ajoining players to be teammates, and this may persuade you change teams, but ultimately a team of victors will emerge.

At the start of the game, set the size of victor's team in the game's settings.  Any winning team with a number of players smaller or equal to that number will be the victors.  For a 3v3v3 set it at 5 players, for 2v2v2 set it at 3 players.

why wont anyone play balance mods?

part of the problem is when people drop, rage quit, crash, the AI is not real trustworthy and tends to break pacts.

People generally don't like unlocked FFA because no one wants to get backstabbed and the games often take longer to play.  Also, you can expect friends to team up with one another and conspire to manipulate other players and backstab their "allies", which could kill the game's balance.

We always play unlocked multiple teams on LAN, makes for some great games. That is what Diplomacy is for.

Yep I have had some good ffa tho.You almost need to play with a group where everyone doesnt know each other. That way there is less backstabbing.Backstabbing is not fun.But if you get 3 teams all randomly fighting each other and there is room to expand is fun.

Also, pure ffa diplomacy games usually take forever unless one team gangs up on everyone else.  I hate FFA because most of the time there is a ton of  buildup and smalll skirmishes, then everyone quits.  I spent two hours feeling like I didn't do anything.  Huge waste of time.  If you have unlocked teams, I suspect weird stuff like this will also happen.  The flip side is it can be one sided with one mega team steamrolling everyone with no chance to lose.

I made a dedicated multiplayer rp campaign style map, very geared towards FFA.  Check out the thread:
