Texture Question

I've been using Elements 7 for a few years now and Adobe just gave me a deal on CS5 so i bought it. Now using CS5 and looking through the planet textures that I created with Elements 7 I noticed that all the alpha channels are completely white, and I'm guessing that's why they are extremely bright in game. My question is what do i want in the alpha channel? Do I delete it and duplicate one of the R, G, B channels , rename it Alpha 1 and make adjustments to it as far as contrast , brightness and so on?

Any help or a sense of direction would be greatly appreciated..........

I always look at the stock ones and work off of them. I just looked at the ice -cl alfa and its a dark greyscale on black background. I dont think the background colour makes a difference unless the image is partially opaque but use black to be safe. Just redo the Alfa, not sure if it will use Alfa 1.
