What Types of Demigod Games are YOU Playing?

Like the title says, what types of Demigod games are you playing now?

I've been sticking with PUGs (pick up games) lately that are random assassin, reasonably balanced, with either towers on high or normal.  I think the random assassin games are my favorite at this point.

Had the most fun I've had with DG in awhile last week in a random assassin game where the other team got 3 ub's.  I think we had 2 tbs and a reg.  And we took the 3 ub's to the toolshed. I'll post that replay later if I think of it.

Pet peeve about random assassin games - some folks want to concede if they rolled a bad random or if the other team got 3 ubs or 3 rooks, etc. I figure, if its random and you knew that going in, you should play what you get.  You never know - one guy on the other team could have a lousy rook, or whatever.  Anyway, I really like all the interesting combos you get and fight against, so I'm playing that the most.

I recently played in a random game, where you apparently pick 2 random assassin dgs and 1 random general.  Then in another game where it was any random - choose rand assassin, general, or ANY.

Oh - and I'm waiting for 1.2 of enfos to come out.  Give enfo's mod a shot if you haven't tried it yet. Its fun stuff.

I'll qualify this with the fact that I'm sort of a noob.  I played this game a year or so ago for like a week straight at a LAN party and then didn't touch it again until a week ago.  I've now played about 10 games online and I pretty much seek out 3v3 noob matches... this is largely due to the fact that if I try to play in anything non-noob I get kicked.  As for game settings I hadn't really noticed. I had assumed default, but did notice High AI HPs.  Why high strength towers?  Always Cataract... I wouldn't mind some diversity there...

I did try a Pantheon game the other day, are these only 1v1?

I hope to start getting some more competitive 3v3 premade v premade or premade v good players as I have a few friends who like to play (and drew me back in).

High towers can draw the game out a little and provide some extra protection for lower HP assassins early game (you are less like to get chased to your death early - that sort of thing).  Overall though, it just makes the games last a little longer, which sometimes is fun.

Panth is only 1v1 when its made that way by low population (eg not many people choose to play in pantheon games).  I don't remember what the cut off is, but I'm pretty sure you could get as high as 4v4 (MAYBE 5v5 in pantheon), but if you look, there are usually no more than 1 or 2 guys queued up in panth, if any, at any given time. So - the odds of that happening is somewhat low.

Another type of game I'm finding I enjoy too - pug (me)+ pugs vs premade.  There aren't alot of good premades around anymore, so seeing a new team would be great.

Glad to hear you are getting back into the swing of things!

I'm playing 1v1 against Easy AI's. I'm still at the point where I'm trying to earn all of the favor items.

Games with no unclean beast are pretty popular with the vent crowd right now.

Right on!  Some of the best ones are Blood of the Fallen, Blade of the serpent, Swift Anklet, Dark Crimson Vial, Staff of Renewal, and Heaven's Wrath.  There's a great website out there that has all of the favor items listed with their powers, etc here: http://www.demigoddb.com.

:)  I take it that there is a bit of an opinion that ub is OP going around in the vent channel?  Or just find you guys like games without him better?

DemigodDB has been dead for some time, Pacov (web front-end is up, but the database is not).  x_x

Also, unless I'm missing something, games versus bots do not award victory favor. You can only gain favor for achievements earned against bots. The grind for favor items is one of the biggest problems for newcomers. The game's population is too small to afford such barriers.

Well yeah, he's in almost every game.  And as soon as someone picks UB it's like, "well shit,,,,,,we need an UB too" :/

Games without beast give a bit more variety and means some of the more underpowered demigods get more of an appearance.

ah - didn't know about that.  Thanks for the heads up... I'll see if I can track him down.

You are right.  I assume he's just playing offline SP.  In that, you do gain favor by beating the ai.

Gotcha - makes sense then to increase variety.

if some one picks UB I would rather have a rook than a UB on my team.

Offline favor carries over to online favor? I was certain that the two were separate. If not, that will certainly help new players.

I really don't mind UB. But if someone picks rook on the opponent's team I always get a headache.

No.  Perhaps I wasn't clear - SP is SP.  MP is MP.  And you can't get favor in MP fighting ai only.

Hah, like I'm fussy.  I'll play in just about any game that I think I have a snowball's chance of winning.  So basically anything except where I have two new teammates who have chosen Regulus and Demon Assassin.

On a side note, I'm sorry to those two new guys that wanted to play Regulus and Demon Assassin today.  No way in hell I was going to suffer through that when the opposing team has chosen Oak, Erebus and UB.

Reg + DA can be incredibly lethal if played correctly. Reg fights on a flag he owns, constantly throwing mines to his side, then DA ports in and immediately swaps, then he spines and warp strikes as reg drops another 3 mines. The burst damage is so great people usually can't port out.

I like 2v2s a lot but no one plays them :(

2v2's are incredibly mind straining. One screw up usually means gg.

That's true, but when my teammates have 5 games of experience combined, I'm not going to bet on that happening in the match.

I'd like a clarification: since I'm playing offline vs. AI, will I have to start all over again gaining favor items when I acquire enough confidence and competence to start playing online against real people?

Yes - its sad but true.  It doesn't take that long online to get the favor for a few good items though.  For instance, you can get alot of along favor just by hosting quick games that start you at level 20, etc.  I believe all of the achievements you unlock grant favor, and there are quite a few easy ones.   Anyway, a night of playing and you can at least have blood of the fallen + swift anklet without much of a problem.

All of that said, I really do recommend spending some time playing against the AI until you can consistently beat them.  Getting the basic game will help you when you come to MP, but you will get your butt whooped until you get a bit of online experience.  The AI aren't exactly brilliant.
