How do i Mod Distant Stars mod?

Selective addition of stuff?

Ok, ill be straight up and say it.

I love the Distant Stars mod.

But there are stuff i hate that are in there, sorry but the music is kinda one of them and the extra effects look great but when 2 fleets of 100 ships each (not counting fighters) fly in. You dont need the drop in FPS and the light explosions disrupting your vision.

So, is there a simple way to mod Distant Stars?

I think the whole team should remake a mod of Distant Stars thats called, More Distant Stars (Now Even Further).

See? Its pretty catchy and funny name, and what it does is that it puts every effect into a different mod folder.

Like instead of DS 0.5 mod.

It would be like.

You know? So i could just select what I want and im sure people would love u guys for it. I would.

If it gets done fast, i will personally hunt down all members of the DS team and +1 karma them.

Guess you going to have to learn how to mod for you can make personalize version of DS for yourself.

Indeed.  Just don't make it available to the public without the Distant Stars people saying it's okay.

Sure, find Harpos txt-bin converter. Then edit what ever you want!

In theory its a great idea, we thought about it for 2 mins one time. But here is why we wont do it.

-Logistical nightmare. Given the recent problem many have getting the current mini mods in the right order with the right checksum. Having the full mod like this gives us nightmares. Not to mention playing MP. With several way to do the mod and everyone will surely have their own way of ordering the mod....checksums wont match...people get mad.....then they yell at us...like it was our fault.

-The sheer ammount of work. To rip the mod apart and gut it would be a serious mod job itself. Your bribe of +1 karma doesnt even pay to fire up the mod rippiing machine for 5 mins. Its rather expensive.

But your welcome to make your own personal version. Just as long as you dont distribute it publicly without the DS team permission.

I know its a big mod file.

So what i'd like to do (In order of importance):

2- Keep the research upgrades, love those.

1 - Remove the white space background, space is a deep dark place, I'd like it that way.

4- Remove most songs and particle effects.

3 - Keep the moons and stuff, i love those.

I think i might have been misunderstood.

Well i believe that an efficient way modders mod/edit their progs would be to have different folders for different things, then they create each section (planets, research, etc)

Then junk em all in the whole mod folder and sell it as a mod, the whole thing will run like butter on a butter knive.

Im just requesting that Distant Stars make all those uncombined folders avaliable to the public for them to personalize their own mods.

For me, i currently have three folders in my mod folder.

1 - Distant Stars mod 0.5 (untouched)

2 - Broken down DS mod (all files converted to text)

3 - Custom Distant (I just drag and drop whatever i want to convert here).

If you just look at it, in MP, ill just uncheck my custom mods and load the DS 0.5 and play normally.

Only reason why im posting here is that i want to personalize my own mod for single play. Cos i seriously loved somethings about the vanilla game that the DS team changed.

refer to the above, im hoping you guys do have like seperate folders prior to merging them into the mod file. I'd like those for single player purposes only. Reason being: Im a newb noob at SOASE, I love DS and would like it to fit me.

As said, im hoping you guys have an archive of seperate files and folders for different features of the mod so you can just pull it out and edit it then replace the one within the mod.
