[Mod Update] XL Planets for 1.191Vanilla Sins

This has been updated and tested. I have reduced the original oversized meshes down to 75% of what they were. The planets are still large, but now the jump behaviour of the ships and the phase lane angles are much closer to normal

This is the link for mediafire XL Planets for 1.191 Vanilla Sins

p.s everything else is normal, just changed the planets. :)

Yes,

My mistake, I should have said 1.181.  :)  It works.  :)

What does it do ? (i mean xL planets is self-explanatory but i would like to have more details)

The main feature is larger gravity wells Teal might of adjusted some other things I missed but it works even if you just copy the planet files + sun files (entity's) to whatever mod your using, also backwards compatible to 1.12 which is where i'm using it.

About 6 months or so ago i discovered a large planet mod by a modder named Cybdevil, he is german i believe or austrian, or swiss, and made very realistci meshes for larger planets that he made. It was fantastic.  :)

Since then i believe Tohklidan has updated the mod to Celestial Bodies, with Double and Triple Stars, dwarf moons and such, it also is fantastic.

Well, some of the basic planets in the game weren't changed originally from the normal size. What i did was use re-sizer to increase the size of the meshes for those "normal" planets. Just the ones in Vanilla Sins. I didnt want to copy the work of Tohklidan or Cybdevil, and to be honest my artistic skills couldnt compete with what they produced. So i re-sized them and adjusted the gravity wells for the planets in the planet entity's to adjust the well size for the larger planets.

Originally i took them up over twenty, actuallly to fifty and some larger in an attempt to get a "realistic" feel to the solar system. But the size of the wells actually pulls the framerate of the game down to a slow crawl. It was horrible.

:( So i gave up for awhile. When i came back to it, i tried something less ambitious. About 5 to 10 size increase instead of the 20 to 50. They dont look as grand as the Twenties and the Fifties  :(  But they do work without pulling the framerate of the game down.  :)

Everything else in the game is pretty much the same, well... that is not entirely true. Because of the increased sizes of the planets the phase lane angles have changed, more up and down, hills and valleys sort of thing, more battles under of over the top of planets due to the well changes. :)  It also makes jumping ships more difficult and different, several times i have had ships go out of the well and half way to another planet before jumping.  :)  Its not perfect of course and some people probably hate it, but me, i think its pretty cool.   :)

Anyway, that is what this mod is about.  All ships and stats and everything else is the same.

:)

Also it works across a lot of the versions up through Vanilla, which i like to.  :)

I have a problem with my impulse download, I've dld it but every time i try to run it, it comes up with and error and has to close giving me the option to "send error report" or not, anyone have any answers for me?

I dont understand the password thing you are asking about, and as for impulse downloads, that of course is done through the impulse program that is downloaded from stardock.

I think you may be asking the wrong person, im just a file tweaking modder, well, haha, and resizing tweaking modder. :)

But im not with Stardock, just a player like you, and as for passwords?

I have no idea what program you are referring to, i use impulse regularly, it doesnt ask for a password, and none of the mods i know, certainly not my own ask for passwords. They are just modifications to the internal entity files in the gameinfo folder mostly, some in the string folder and some in the mesh folder of course, but that is it.

Sorry, can't help you,

Ask the devs, or contact stardock directly, they have both a contact email address and should have a phone number as well. They may have a better idea of what you are referring to, and which program is asking it.

Good luck,

:)  I understand. I don't know how to help you with the moons, as i haven't coded any companion orbital bodies before,But my guess, at least if it is like the grav wells, is that an increase, or decrease in those values you use to position them, will bring them back closer to how you want them.

:)  Please let me know, or if i can ask how you coded the moons, i can take a look and see if i can figure it out too.

I didn't code the "moons", they are included in the Distant Stars Mod. They aren't moons as you might thing, they are just very downsized planets which look like moons. They are not orbiting any planet (unfortunatelly). I just place them near a planet and put a phaseline between the planet and his "moons".

In game all objects around a upsized star have veeery differ "hights". It's often that two neighbour planets has that much difference between high, that the phaseline is tilted up to 45° or even more. It takes alot of time till the ships are jumping, because they also have to tilt 45 or more degree. Looks like it has something to do with the Mesh of the bigger stars.

I just wonder if there is a line in the entity or mesh files which says the "height" of the orbit (I think it's the "z" coordinate, that one which is not adjustable in Galaxy Forge)

Dazley,

You can use the z co-ordinate in the game to get ships to jump out faster by setting a key combination you want to use to force them into a z axis direction.

You also can change the jump angle from 45 degrees to something less in the gameplay.constants file.

But yes, the hills and valleys thing, with the different heights, i believe has to do with the system being a certain size, which of course is fine for normal size planets. But i believe that when we upsized the mesh on the planets and stars that it forces them closer and up and down to accommodate all of them at the new size.

As to a line in a file to change their height, there isn't one. The angle i believe is a direct result of the larger mesh size. If you want to get it somewhere back to normal, i believe 1 of 2 things will help. Either use Galaxy forge to edit the galaxy and spread everthing out and increase the size of the system.

Or get planets that are somewhere between where i have resized them and normal ones. I can see if i can get that modded and post it for you.

:)

That ok?

okie, got it, i have a reduced size mesh mod up that works with 1.191, ship jump behavior and phase lane angles are closer to normal. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Ok, i will give it a try. Now where are the files? : )

I just want to say: I only used the resized stars files, but not the planets, now it looks more like real (woooo big bright sun), but the "Hills and Valleys" effect is heavy in there, i also had to resize the grav-well, because for some reason the ships wanted to flight into the star to make an interstellaric phasejump...Also the effect was so heavy ships wasn't able to phasejump to some "moons" because the tilting of the phaselines was too big and the ships wanted to fly into the planet which wasn't impossible.

I understand. The link is at the top, i made a new link to the new files. They are on MediaFire.

Wells should be already adjusted, but let me know.

I've tested the new meshes. Except of size there is no change. Planets height is still messed up :(

Is the mod for Diplomacy?

it's not working for me =( would it be because i downloaded it on a mac the switched it to my offline desktop (you gotta hate the terrible software that comes with self install wifi cards)

when i apply changes it just freezes, i'm using diplo 1.01 (one update behind, I think, because of internet problems), but i also tried it on plain old vanilla 1.181 and it didn't work

:(  At this point, it might be best to just give up and get a better mod. I am afraid i havent had very much time, and i dont know what could be affecting your games, but if it doesnt work, then it doesnt work.

Try Distant Stars and or Tohklidan's Celestial Planets mods, or Bailknights graphics mods. Very well done and i think they are all updated to Diplomacy as well.

:)

Best of luck and im sorry mine didnt work,

I will have to look at it when i have a chance,

Take care,
