Demigod... my critisicm!

I would like to start off by saying I love Sins of a Solar Empire and play it to dead and I also love Supreme Commander and have the expansion as well so I know you guys have it in you to make this game what it should be. It just seems like the time that should have been taken was not. I got the game for half price so I am happy, but for those who didn't well... I'm sorry. It really plays lke a 20 dollar game and has content of a 20 dollar game.

So why on Earth does Demigod have no tutorial? I have no clue whats going on and I just get sent into the game to do whatever without knowing the mechanics? The game seems fun so far even though I am sure I am missing half the things, but I just had to come here and ask why no tutorial and why an utter lack of maps? Is there atleast a level editor so we can make some maps for our selves if you guys don't want to take the time to give us a bit more variety?

EDIT: Played a bit mroe and have a couple more gripes. OK the game is fun I will give you guys that I am enjoying it, but if I didn't get it for half price I would feel ripped off.

-No tutorial

-No auto attack like every other RTS ever

-Characters get stuck on corners ALL the time

-Lack of maps

-Based off of DOTA obviously and is a fully fledged production yet has less content than the FREE MOD it is based off

-Impulse overlay kills steam overlay and we all know everyone uses steam I have all my friends on it and I want to be able to talk to them and when I click shift+tab useless impulse comes up

Seriously Stardock GPG you can do better we all know you can.

No auto attack?

Right clicking an enemy makes you attack it until it's dead. Your hero automatically attacks any enemies in range. You can hold alt when you click to do "aggressive move." What's missing?

Why would Impulse ever try to interface with Steam's chat?

That's never going to happen.

I am a long term Steam user, just got Demigod tonight, downloading it now--got it half price, nice.  So, I decide to test Exostanza's Steam overlay problem and his claim that when he does shift tab in game with Steam that the Impulse overlay kills the Steam overlay.  Well, poppycock.  It doesn't.  Steam and it's overlay are working fine.

Regarding the lack of a tutorial, I am looking around for an FAQ or walkthrough for Demigod to see if that will solve the issue.

Cheers.

1. Uhh it does have auto attack if you right click the corners and it'd be silly if he auto attacked when someone is in range becouse you only control 1 DG

2. Never happened to me

3. IT'S NOT BASED OF DOTA IT'S JUST THE SAME GENRE OF GAMES CALLED AOS.

... From what I know.

1. auto attack works fine for me.

2. Yes I do see characters getting stuck on corners rather often.

3. Yes it's increadibly similar to DOTA; whenever I describe the game to friends, I use DOTA as a reference.

But the fact of the matter is that this is an AMAZINGLY fun game to play, and I've gotten more than my money's worth at full price.  I have some complaints about it, but I also have patience.  I am confident that more maps and more demigods will come.  I also believe that a map editor is in the future.  I look forward to playing other's maps (those more creative than I) and exploring new items available in the shops.

Just remember that this game was unfortunately rushed for early sales.  I knew this when I bought it and also knew that even greater things for the game were yet to come.  If you bought it leagally, GREAT!  You will be rewarded.  Just wait.

Never had an issue with auto-attack, I'm always just doing things with my DG.

Does get caught on corners, more often if you sending him farther away I've noticed, but also attacking things on other side of corner.

I'm pretty sure they handed the guy the ability to make this game off of ideas he gleaned from dota, true AOS is at the roots of dota, but dota is what made it popular.

My own criticism is in multiplayer, it's impossible to win after one team has gotten the advantage, either through "war effort," the flags, or them starting with really nice "favor" items, which I am growing to despise, since it punishes new players (seriously, only 10 points for losing a game despite ANY EFFORT put into it? just unbalances it towards those who hopped into multiplayer first.)

(yes I know it's a new game, but if you are a competant player of this style of game, and being new screws you over because everyone else has higher favor items, then it's a worthless feature, I have more fun fighting computers on hard and those can beat the crap out of me!)

Sigh, you guys obviously have no clue what an auto attack is. Auto attack is your hero automatically moving to engage enemies that come within their threat range, not 'I right click, he attacks'. This threat range however is limited only to the character's attack range in Demigod...thats not a threat range, a threat range would be say for example unclean beast is melee but will move to engage a unit thats within 100 metres and automatically attack it. This threat range is programmed into every single RTS known to man (that was anywheres decent or known), and in the majority of newer games even has thresholds. (a great example would be Total Annihilation, Return fire, hold fire, etc.) The fact that this game is lacking any sort of real HUD is pathetic, and the attack move doesn't even work properly either. The getting caught on corners is also annoying as hell having to maneuver away from and then around the corner. As well more often than not when you first right click something to attack it the first shot you fire usually doesn't do any damage which is just sloppy programming.

@Syltman: It's based off of dota, exact same concept. Dota is more or less the game that brought this genre to life and its stated everywhere you look, its based off of dota. Why people try to argue otherwise is totally beyond me.

That kind of auto-attack sounds like a good way to get killed in DG.

the only correct point is the thing about getting stucked in corners. this happens right often.

but offers MUCH MORE than dota, deeper gameplay and balance.

i agree it should have some more maps, and more important the possibility for teamed auto-matches. setting somebodys as friends, as team-mates and then join an auto-generated skirmish.

the only possibility currently are custom games. but i want a ladder of automatic ajusted balanced games WITH my mates and not with random players in my game.

despite of that it is a great game!

Sure if you're an idiot and you just send your guy off to the lane while you go make some lunch and watch TV. What a dumb statement that was, have you ever even played a computer game before? Having to click every mob just to attack it is silly and diverts your attention away from the minimap even for a second and you can easily miss something.

A WALK THROUGH OR TUTORIAL WOULD HELP SOME LIKE ME.  i RIGHT CLICK TARGET BUT NO HAMMER SMASH, JUST HAMMER SWINGS AS LOVE TAPS. TO SMASH I HAVE TO CLICK ON THE HAMMER ICON OR CLICK ITS NUMERICAL SHORTCUT BUT BY THE TIME I DO THAT AND RIGHT CLICK THE TARGET, THE TGARGE KILLS MY ROOK.   SO TELL ME HOW TO USE THE POWER QUICKLY.. SAME WITH THE POWERS OF OAK TO MAKE OTHERS DIE OF SHAME SORT OF STUFF. i CANT GET UM TO WORK

I like it and have no problems with it :)

My one minor gripe is ...

not enough female gods, and no female assassin gods :)

More goddesses please :)

Only one thing is bad for this game and that is game's unbalanced. Hey I don't want StarCraft's balance (anyone can do this anyway except Blizzard) but devs must look onto this. That dog (beast) is overpowered, GPG must do something about it that is so annoying.

The dog is overpowered? Not in the crowd I'm playing with. The unclean beast is the least successful demigod, as far as I've seen. I suppose it entirely depends on who's playing what, and how. My group has tried them all, and fought them all, and there's a pretty good balance. It just might not feel that way because it might be that they path -they- took that day was a counter to the path you took that day.

My friend sent me a link to the one stats page where it shows the demigod with the highest win percentage was the unclean beast.

That in no way means that Unclean Beast is overpowered. Easy to play maybe but not overpowered.
