Demigod is a Total Letdown

Was part of the beta, was unimpressed. Actual game mechanics aren't as tight as DOTA. Building up to higher tier items was a way better feature rather than in Demigod where you just buy the single item. On top of that, ganking is totally missing from Demigod. You see Demigods clearly and fog of war is nothing in comparison to the fog of war in DOTA that you can actually hide in. Furthermore, the depth of each demigod doesn't make up for the lack of different ones. Skill trees were way exaggerated in terms of Demigod customization.

I've played this game an extensive amount (I could show you if my online stats weren't broken) and this game just doesn't deliver. I was naive to think this game could build some steam.

Despite all this, I didn't care as long as my friends and I would be able to start a clan and have ranked matches together. Never Happened. That system is totally missing and I don't care if you tell me it's coming 4 months from now. I couldn't tell my friends with a straight face to buy his game.

Huge dissapointment. Big Quality drop off from Sins. Selling my demigod account for $10.

I do want to say, while it is missing a few features from DotA, it does have a bunch that aren't in DotA. For the decadillionth time... Demigod isn't trying to copy DotA.

As for not having clans, I'm glad they are spending more time on fixing the connection issue right now then giving up on those that can't connect and not giving them any support.

I know you said you don't care if I tell you, but give it some time and Demigod will really shine. It's already got my vote without the additional and demigods and other updates promised.

    Those issues are but a handful of the problems that plague demigod, it doesnt even have a multiplayer filter (or didnt upon release) but I guess thats not a problem seeing as the multiplayer is so unresponsive and broken anyway.

Although it is by almost all accounts a broken game it obviously is enjoyable and it is not my place to raise question about Stardock's current quality control methods I just hope the launch for Elemental goes alot more smoothly.

I hate elitist as much as the next guy but ganking is a strategy.  You can play a game in such a way to best avoid them.

Agreed to.  Not enough is being done to show this game is different than others out there.  Not mentioning DoTA because that is just another typical thing to say.

LOL guess you all play DoTA. Not hard to figure that much out. Alot of DoTAs skills are the same cross the board with minor tweaks here and there.

No, ganking is not a strategy cause if they meet someone that starts beatting the gangker 2 things they run and after few times they leave the game.

 

So far i love demigod and i have connective problems but it did get alkot better since release.

the game seems balanced for a released game. sure a few people whine that this DG is OP or another needs buffs.

Different games, different mechanics.  Same genera.  Would you start a flame war on a TF2 forum stating how Halo is so much better?  Of course not!  They are clearly very different games with very different mechanics despite being in the same genera.

You all dota lowers, have you been playing it since it's early stages? I was way more bugged, then Demigods are right now, for a really long time. DK lvl 16 in ulti crashing game when attacking gem, anyone? Just give it some time.

Also how many items/heroes were there in beginning and how many are there now...

I've never played DoTA and I enjoy DG.  Sure there's issues, sure SD says they'll be fixed.  Read the posts.  The CEO of SD regulary updates his customer base with what is happening behind scene. Name any other company that does that to this extent. 

 

If you play Sins, you know it took awhile to balance out some issues.  You should also know how great the support is.  Stick with it or leave.  DG wis here for the long run.

Good post, you stated in a mature manner your issues with the game.

That said, I have HEARD (cannot confirm), that DotA has a high learning curve. Is that because of the gameplay itself, or because the community is so advanced? I never played games online before UNTIL Demigod. I find it easy to get into. Perhaps they made it too casual for your tastes in order to appeal to a wider market (people like me)? You're more in a position than I am to make this connection because you've played DotA.

DotA is much more complex, basically if you wanna be good at it you need to master many things which you are unable to do in DGs- denies, last hits, creep stacks and much more... thus making DG more casual, but totally not less enjoyable.

Dota's item system is balanced and well done, I'm not so sure its the item system thats terrible as sin... In dota you buy smaller items early game, that upgrade to better items mid-late game. The only items you sell later are wraith band recipes/branches DG's system you just buy something at the start then sell it later once you're out of inventory space, its sloppy. Not to mention half the items in the shop don't even get bought.

A comparison between DG and Dota isn't the same as comparing TF2 and Halo...it would be closer to compare TF2 to the ORIGINAL TF done on the QUAKE engine. Dota and DG are not 'very different games' they are pretty damn similar considering every single review talks about dota? When have you ever read a TF2 review that even mentions Halo? Your arguements don't make sense.

As for the OP, it's unforunate that you feel this way but I can totally understand what you mean. In time no doubt the game will improve, all these stupid little bugs will get fixed, and hopefully in a few months they'll be on their way to start adding more maps/heroes/items/etc. I wouldn't give up on the game just yet because it definitely has some potential, it's just very sad and unfortunate that there are so many problems with a newly released title.

I like them both but demiggod is much more fun for me.  I really hated the item system in DOTA, though wish they would have made more/better items in demigod.  Both have their flaws and play style differences.  I personally hated last hits and gankers.

The point is not that this game is not Dota, but theres not enough variety in the game itself. There are not very many items, demigods, but luckily there are quite a few maps.

DG has lots going for it:

  1. Diversity of DG's, playstyles, item combinations, strategies etc
  2. Simple to pick up, hard to master
  3. Pretty graphics yet runs super smooth (no one really mentions that do they?)
  4. Great levels of support and communication from SD
  5. Gameplay is fast, fun and so far has not got boring (personal pref obviously)

Now there is probably more and obviously some against it. So no DG is not the most, perfect, best game ever in the whole wide super world. But it is far from a let down and I get the feeling that its destined to really carve out a decent sized niche for itself.

I agree with you on this.  Lately I have been geting frustrated with the netcode that seemingly works worse than it did in beta, I really iss 4v4 and 5v5 games.  Hopefully the patch on monday can address a few of the issues.  I think this game has a great future, if the patches and dlc work out.

My favorite part is how everyone pretends like Dota was always awesome.

It has taken literally over 5 years for Dota to become what it is today.  5 years of bug fixing, balancing, new content.  Original Dota had 10 heroes with most having abilities just reused from regular WC3 heroes.

It was fun back then.  Demigod is fun now.  Is Demigod as good as Dota is today?  No.  Give it time.  With rebalancing, tuning, and new content additions, it can be.

There's no way things get tuned without data.  After watching people play and see how everything is being used/abused they will hopefully add the needed features and make the balance fixes necessary.

You should e-mail sales@stardock.com and ask for a refund.  The game was released unfinished strictly against their gamer's bill of rights.  If they don't let you get a refund they are full of it.
