Would Anyone Be Willing To Help Me Test StarFall v9?

Hi,

    I'm working on v9 of StarFall and have some interesting physics that have come about by re-sizing the planets and stars, and wanted to ask if anyone would care to help me test it, its still alpha stage for the new physics, but the races and ships and everything from v8.5 is included. 

Its just the new physics and the grav wells and the distances that are driving me crazy!!  Haha, i've tried new values but im missing something. Hope some people would like to give it a go, let me know. 

I havent' uploaded the v9Test yet, but will if someone wants to give me a hand figuring out how to get it fixed. No mini-dumps yet, but still things to iron out.

I have started a new mod around this change in planet size, (not using CyberD's or DireSaints wonderful mod) but my re-sized standard planets and named it the HP (Huge Planets mod) still in beta of course, until i can get these issues ironed out. Link for the other mod page is below:

teal if you are willing to upload it to your filefront I can test it and will advise based on large maps. I also have created a micor mod the fixes the advent starbase meteor strike, doubles the mine detect radius, bumps the upgrade slots for starbases,changes the portraits & gets replaces of the entrenchment cobalt sound with the sins one. ps I can download from you fileplanet without recieving a link.

Will do Harpo, THank you, TohKlidan said he would take a look too, appreciate it. Its for 1.16, not Entrenchment, but if you have 1.16 then great, if not, let me know. I dont have the mod ready for Entrenchment, as a matter of fact i havent even started it. But the one for 1.16 i am working on is, haha, driving me crazy.  :)

Your mod sounds very cool, perhaps i could try it when you are done, or if you need help, i could give a hand? I'm not a great modder, really a file tweaker and mesh mixer, :)  But i have fun, and perhaps i can help with something.  :)

You know Harpo, i've been playing this the last hour or so, and i'm beginning to think, it just might work, i mean if i re-size the maps, it isnt too bad, there are some anomolies, but not a lot, and i suppose the longer i "live" with the difference, the more it seems acceptable. Anyway, am uploading it now, almost finished. Will post the link here when done.

teal is there any particular things we should test or report eg string errors other nondeath errors ctd's balance ideas?

Any anomolies you find, i can use the galaxyforge to move the planets and stars further apart, but the faricon, the placeholder icon for the star when the map is zoomed out as far as you can go, is not there. I think its the size of the star which i increased to times ten, but i thought the zoom controls would replace the mesh (picture in game) with the icon when completely zoomed out. But it doesnt. I think there is a setting to adjust that, but i could be wrong of course.

In addition, in multi-star maps (at least the original maps) have the stars all bunched up, even though they are supposed to be separated as they are separate systems.

Anyway, I dont know if the galaxyforge will correct that or not, my assumption is yes, but we will see.

The physics on jumps is strange, it "shimmies" back and forth to an angle either above or below the planet, but i believe this is the grav well settings in the entity for the planet. And the star well as well.

I do get some image flicker/breakup when zooming in or out sometimes in the star image, which may be a result of the re-size, or perhaps the textures that have not been resized to the new mesh size, but this is just a guess at this point.

As to what i would like to have you report, well, anything you find helpful, or anything i havent seen yet. As little or lot as you would care, depending on how you feel. There may be alot more wrong than i have already seen, and it may be too much, so you could simply say, "Its Messed Up!" and leave it at that. Or if you prefer, you could list each anomolie or as much detail as you think is appropriate.

Anyway, i just thought some "different eyes" might be able to make sense of what is happening, and a way to keep the planets and stars over-sized and make it work, but that may not be possible.

Hi Justin!!!!  Actually this is for 1.16 Vanilla, but its still cool, haha, providing i can get it to work!!  :)   I liked the Large planets in CyberD's Sol Mod that DireSaint updated so nicely!  :)  That i wanted to make them BIGGER!!  Haha, well, i made them "Ten Times Larger!!" and then started having some issues, even though the planets and the stars are a "Perfect" size.  :)   Haha, at least i like how it makes the ships look, well... more realistic, is that a way to put it?  You know, it looks well.... like the planets and stars are real planets and star sizes, i guess is what im saying, or thinking, or whatever... just my opinion of course, haha, but i like them, if i could make them work.

Physics are off, i think becuase of the jump numbers in the entity, and the far icon is gone, well... and some other things, half a dozen things so far, but you are welcome to take a look and see what you think, or if it looks unsalvageable.

Demigod is INSANE!!!! LOVED IT FROM THE FIRST GAME ON!!!!!

 

But at university, the network blocks the required ports (sniff) so I resort back to sins (hell yeah ;) ). And since I haven't played Entrenchment for a while..well I though! What the hell...let's help Teal ;)

:)  Thanks to TohKlidan, Mooster and Calienon!!!   I think we've got it!! The flickering and image breakup went away. I kept adjusting the values up (with the thought they would increase as a result of re-sizing them up) and got to a point where the flickering and the image breakup disappeared.

I also am playing on a re-sized map, to keep the planets from being inside the corona field of the star, and some were actually inside the body of the star :(  Oh my!!!  But the re-sized maps do the trick of moving the planets out away from the new re-sized star and it plays normal now.

There are some consequences of this size change of course, one being that the jump behaviour is now back to normal and my z-axis discovery with the jump angles is gone. But that may be a good thing, and i believe that IC had ships rising and falling in combat anyway, so my little discovery wasn't as big a deal as i first thought, haha, but now with the re-sized planets and stars, the galaxy "Feels" HUGE!!   Haha, silly maybe i know, but i like how it feels to play in such a large playground.  :)

Oh also, since i re-spaced the planets out farther to avoid the overlap with the star, the distances to the other planets is now significantly longer, some as much as 4 or 5 times longer. But that is ok too, i dont mind. Feels like "real" travel, haha, but for those who want a fast and down and dirty game, its gonna be hard to get used to.

Also of course it makes the games longer as a consequence, with the longer phase lanes to reach the enemy and perhaps the limited ability to re-inforce (at least quicklly) your forces that are spread out over a much larger system or set of systems.

Anyway, am going to zip HP 0.2 Beta Test and upload it to FileFront and see if anyone wants to give it a try, i will include a re-sized map as well, and then of course i will have to start re-sizing all the maps, unless you make your own in galaxyforge, just make sure to space the planets out a good distance from the planets so as to not overlap, you should be fine.  :)

I am playing  a game now to see how it plays out and if there is anything i missed that still needs to be taken care of.

If you find anything of course give me a yell on the forums and i will take care of it.  :)

as a sidenote, if you go to c:\appdata\local\ironclad\sinsofasolarempire\mods\firefall2.1\

You will see the folders used for the mod. One of them is the GameInfo folder. If you open that folder you will find the capitals and the frigates entity files used for the ships for all the races. They are listed as CapitalShip_Phase_... Or CapitalShip_Tec_... or frigatePsiAntiFighter... inside those entities of course is the list of abilities and inside the abilities is the buffs (not all of them use buffs of course).

But from the gameinfo folder you can find all the names you need. All you have to do is take those entities and copy them over to your other mod, if it is a 1.02 Entrenchment mod. If you are referring to the ships in StarFall which is still for 1.16 Vanilla and are moving them into another Vanilla Sins mod, then that is fine. But if you want to move the ships in StarFall into an Entrenchment mod, then you have to wait for me to convert them. Or convert them yourself if you want. But for Vanilla to Vanilla or Entrenchment to Entrenchment  just copy the files over from one mod to the other and update the entries in the string file in the string folder.

In the string folder for firefall, you will need to look up the names i listed in the name and discription and do a search in the string until you find them and then copy and paste those into the string file of the other mod as well.

Some of the ships use custom abilities, or custom meshes (i will have to look at the mod, it has been a bit since i have worked on it) and if that is true, then you will have to copy those custom abilities and buffs and meshes into the other mod as well. It sounds tedious, and some of it is, but it should work.

What mod are you wanting to merge FireFall with?  Perhaps i can merge it for you, since i know how FireFall is put together it would be simpler for me to do it.

Sorry to sound too busy Olli, i have had the Entrenchment mod in work for quite a while, much longer than it would have taken in Vanilla, and the entity.manifest has taken me a while to get used to. My apologies, i will get back to it as soon as i can iron out this problem with the Planets mod i have, then i will put the Planets mod on hold and finish the Entrenchment one. Sorry for the wait.

Distant Stars you say?  I will have to ask the modder if they mind if i merge it for those who may want it?  Or well... better idea, let me make a "Drop In" mod that will have the ships and the players can put it in whatever mod they want. 

Please hang in there, i will get it done, its just i've been distracted lately.

Recently my real life has gotten very crazy. Would prefer not to go into that, but i have to put everything on hold, until life gets calm again. Nothing can get updated if i cant work on it, and right now, at least for awhile it seems, i wont be able to do that.

I probably wont be on the computer for awhile, and the problems ive been trying to work through for HP, StarFall and FireFall as well as the merger for Entrenchment and the other mods will have to sit, until i do. Sorry to everyone, take care and see you when i have a chance to get back.
