[SOLVED] Maps with Many Stars - White Blobs?

How to Remove Spiral Galaxy from stars when zoomed out?

Hey all, I don't know if you've ever tried to make a BIG multi star map. Well, either way, there's an issue you run into. Creating the map is fine, but if you have too many galaxies, when you zoom all the way out, the stars turn into galaxy animations and well ... everything devolves into a big white blob of gooey death an fps destruction. -_-

Is there ANY way to remove to remove or replace the galaxy animation? I mean, it's a SINGLE star and when you zoom out, BAM, it turns into a big galaxy thing. With the current animation the way it is (while zoomed out) it's impossible to create a game with more than a handful of stars. I'm not talking stars with 50+ planets, i'm talking about more of a realistic setup, star systems that have 5-8 planetoid bodies.

I can creat the map just fine, it's the silly galaxy animations that kill the whole thing. Can anybody help? I tried renaming and / or deleating the spiralgalaxy.dds textures and anything that seemed related but NOTHING changed. O.o'

If anyone cam help me out on solving this issue or have already solved it, it would be greatly apreciated!!! For anyone using the Celestial Bodies Mod or various Sol Mods, creating many star maps is ideal, save for the white globs of death when you zoom out.

Help?

Hm, I would have suggested to remove the 'spiralgalaxy.dds' entry from the 'texture.manifest' file but the latter doesn't even exist.

Sorry...

what if you create planet entities but use star mesh?

my suggestion that might work is to create a mod changing/removing the skyboxstars.mesh & or skyboxbackdrop#.mesh files

hope this works

I tracked down where the spiral galaxy files are and which ones are causing the problems.

They're in the Texture Folder.

galaxyspiral.dds

galaxyspiral2.dds

galaxyspiral3.dds

When I deleat them, it just leaves behind white blocks ... is there anyway to edit a .dds file or some other way to make things see through ... or replace them with a star?

Problem Solved!!!!

I've taken black-da.dds, edited it's alpha chanel to white instead of black and then renamed it to fit galaxyspira.dds, galaxyspiral2.dds, and galaxyspiral3.dds. When you start up the game you no longer see galaxies of death, you just see little tiny stars. :)

Also, this texture change does not cause mismatches during online play. :) I will be putting this together in a small package for download later this weekend.
