in 1.0...
siege frigates were much more durable and much less expensive. it was possible to rapidly build large masses of them (like 20) and go kill every planet in your opponent's empire before they could fight back. they have been massively nerfed since then. primarily their cost and fleet logistics have been increased a huge amount.
Long Range frigates of all kinds were slightly cheaper and slightly faster. they had small changes made that increased their cost and decreased their speed. the Illuminator has also had its damage in general increased a little bit, it used to be a lot worse than it is now.
Carriers were very different. TEC and Vasari carriers used to have only 1 squadron. Advent carriers had 2 squadrons. their costs were alot cheaper of course, to reflect this. however, the cost on a per squadron basis was actually alot more expensive than it is now. squadrons themselves also used to be slightly weaker, mostly they were easier to kill with Flaks.
Flaks used to deal more damage to non-squadron ships than they currently do. they were actually used pretty commonly as a counter to Long Range frigates since their combination of cheap cost and high survivability made them an economically feasible counter to LRFs. they no longer are because they no longer deal enough damage to non-squadrons.
capital ship abilities were pretty different. i don't think i remember all of them, but here are the highlights.
Malice did not have a target cap and i think it applied damage in real time, or by some other means than it does now. it could be easily combined with Cleansing Brilliance (on the Radiance ship) to instantly deal multiple thousands of damage to every ship in the enemy fleet. it was very nearly a one shot fleet kill.
the explosions resulting from ships dying under Volatile Nanites had a much larger area of effect and it was possible to set off gigantic chain reactions with this by killing just 2 or 3 ships. the rest of the fleet would blow up instantly in the chain reaction explosion. also pretty close to a one-shot fleet kill.
the Marza's missile barrage was bugged and not working properly. it wouldn't fire all 20 waves, and would sometimes drop targets for no reason. nobody used it because it was broken. the Marza was only ever used for Raze Planet back then.
Embargo on the Sova was slightly more powerful. it had cooldown=duration at all levels (now it only reaches that at level 3) so it could be on constantly even from a Level 1 Sova. it also had a lower antimatter cost. this led to alot of people using their Level 1 Sovas to rush the enemy homeworld at the beginning of the game and completely cripple their economy.
also, the single player AI in 1.0 was basically non-functional. it used to run away from every fight no matter what. it also used to build almost nothing but siege frigates. there was a gigantic update to the AI in 1.04 i think that made it much more fun to play against.
I'm no longer 100% certain but I thought that drone hosts also had 1 squadron.
well...dang
The computer I have (the only computer capable, in the house, to play sins, has no internet link!)
If i download Forge Tools do you think I could Mod the everliving crap out of this thing to where it would be more like it is now?
PS: Is it possible to move Forge Tools from PC to PC by using a USB memory card? (like cut & paste, no copying allowed!)
(please answer the PS question, no one has given me a straight answer yet!)
You can transport the Forge Tools but the lastest may not work with the earlier versions of the game. They too had to be updated when the game was updated
All carriers only held 1
If I could get a DEV (hint, hint, nod, nod) to let me know...
thanks for the input guys!
Wait, what? Completely modding the game by hand to match the current patch is less work that getting internet to another computer in the house? I think we're trying to solve the wrong problem here. Let's help you share internet.
That would definitely be a better Idea
Well...
I was planning on being a programmer after I get out of college...
this would help me learn that stuff...
I would just like to know that the Forge Tools would work with the 1.00 version...
HEY! if any1 has the version of Forge Tools that works with 1.00, and if its really transportable, someone could addthe file to an E-mail and send it to me! (if its possible)
(and how would you "Share internet"?)
Routers and LAN. My dad once had 6 computers running off one internet line.
It's usually easier to set up a wireless network than string wires all over the house. You can get basic hardware for 25$ shipped:
Directions for setting it up come with the products themselves, but you can find better on the net. Microsoft's official one is here.
ok, thanks for the ideas...
But i'd like to know if the latest version of Forge Tools works with 1.00...
any1 have a "press to call DEV" button?
No they will not. Too many changes
Do you know of any way to get a version that DOES work with it?
Like see if any1 has it and (as mentioned above) will E-mail it to me...
so i can move it to my OTHER computer that CAN play sins... etc,etc,etc...
I'm getting a feeling of "Arrrrrrrrrrrrr........matey!"
Yes
...sigh...
I guess I can't prove my innoccence...
So ill just have to live with the 1.00
You guys are right to be cautious thogh...
thanks for all of your ideas!
Sorry dude, but in this day and age of pirating, you are not going to get much help in this regard.
i have a simpler low-tech solution to this lack of internet home network. bypass all the trouble of buying and setting up a router and all that.
just swap the boxes one time only so you can download the Sins update. i mean literally unhook your computer, bring it to the room with the internet cable in it. hook it back up, put the cable in the box, download the thing, and then move it back to its original location.
i know thats crude and sloppy but you can do it with no money and no expertise. its simple, even if its somewhat manual labor intensive.
ultimately you should get a wireless router so you can have internet on more than one computer in the house. but thats an issue you can take up with whoever else you live with. get your Sins up to date first since 1.16 is a thousand times more playable and enjoyable than sins 1.0.
I had to do that for a while. I lived seperately from my parents and had no internet. Would go to parents house with comp and upgrade once a month. It did suck
HEY! thats a great idea!
I'll try to confince my 'rents to let me do that...
PS: (just as a back-biter)
Who the &%$^ would pirate something this old?!?!?!?
