Greetings All!

Throughout my time here playing and modding the game I have become quite knowledgeble in the overall aspects of the game and modding the game as a whole.  While I learn stuff everyday, I feel like I can teach and answer questions as well.  People have helped me along the way, so this is my way of giving back to the community.  So, if you have a question that you think I may know an answer to, feel free to post and I will reply whatever I know.  Feel free to ask about anything about the game, modding, or anything else in general, my head is full of useless facts and knowledge.  I have played most Space/Sci-fi games, love fantasy games (like Oblivion and NWN) watch just about every Sci-Fi & Fantasy TV show, and have a deep knowledge of science and history, especially ancient history.  I have a Marketing and Sales background, with a specialization in graphics and art.  I also know modeling programs, but use 3D MAX specifically for modding.

So, I leave it up to you, the modding and gaming community.  I will be listening....

This is unrelated to sins but I am playing with the Softimage XSI Mod Tool and I wand to make a simulation of a nuke droping on New York City (no ofence anyone who lives there:grin: ) and I need to know how to get my buildings to explode/disinigrate/crumble/colapse. Do I have to make them out of tiny splinters or is there a way to get them to spit into smaller peices and rip apart.

any help would be apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello.  I downloaded two maps and put them in the galaxy folder in the Ironclad Games folder.  But I can't find them when I want to play!

franz if you are using a version of sins BEFORE 1.16 then the correct folder is the stardock\sins\galaxy folder

if you have sins 1.16 then the CORRECT folder is the galaxyforge folder

both of the above assume that the map version is correct for your sins version. for sins 1.15/1.16 you NEED map version 3, but if the maps are NOT mapversion 3 then you will need my map updater. I suggest the version 2 of it as it correctly updates version 0,1 & 2 to version 3.

anyone know where, if possible, to change the amount that holding the shift key and pressing buttons in game actually moves. i would like to increase this amount.

Not at this time.  I checked.  That is all part of the game engine, which itself cannot be modded or modified.

I would say the best way is to go to his mod thread, THE LAST STAND.  He is quite active there within his thread, and he occasionally pops in on my threads to help out from time to time.  He is a complete genius with XSI.  All his XIN models are made with it.  You can also try sending him a PM.

Sadly still a few weeks out I am afraid.  While I have tons of files done, there are still many more.  And I have not even started the textures yet.  So hang in there, hopefully within May you will see 7DS 2.5 released.  I may release some mini mods in the mean time, to try to keep the people happy with something fresh and new.

I was just playing as Rouge for 7DS 2.1 and found that the LHD now needs 5 Military Research labs to be researched which I think is rediculious, so now the Rouge are even more screwed for colonizion cause their only ship that can colonize has too high of cost to get.

 

Seriously dude, why'd you'd mess up the Rouge like that? I can't even play as them in 2.1 :(.

for example in the  FrigateTechSiege.entity  there is a line starting with NameStringID and DescriptionStringID, from that you know what you have to search in the language file

the language file is in the String folder, it's called "English.str"

Ok, I lied before.

 

I can't find entity.manifest or manifest.entity. 

 

Can you give me a step by step instructions?4

 

Also, I don't have entrenchment.

the master manifest files are in the entrenchment folder in program files

the master manifests should be copied into the folder for the entremchment mod that you are creating.

The idea behind the Rogue is that you are a pirate, and that you must steal everything in order to survive.  The best tactic when playing the Rogue is to turtle up in the very beginning, and unlock the research to start building ships that can capture other ships, then go forth and capture everything in sight.  Then you use your new found fleet to go and rule the galaxy.  Any ship classified as a frigate can be captured, this means all the new Super Frigates, like the Atlantians and TCA have.  So you can get near capital ships for free.  All this had to come at a cost, and putting an actual colony ship further up the research tree balances the Rogue out by slowing down their expansion, as they would literally capture any fleet they fight against.

Just remember, 7DS is not about balance, it is about giving you the most dynamic and inclusive game possible, which means that each race now has a different strategy, each with very unique strengths and weaknesses.  You need to adjust your game, or pick a race that matches your playing style.  That is one of the main ideas behind 7DS, that each time you play is different, and ever changing.

All this being said, most of the new maps now actually give you one colonizer in the very beginning with 7DS, if you lose that, then you need to go the other route.

What does mass effect?

In Entrenchment, I made a 4th race. Every is great, when I PLAY AS THEM. When I change the game settings so the AI is playing as the 4th race, it minidumps in about 5 seconds after start. Why is this? Also, I get no errors when I play as this race and no errors before the minidump.

 

Guys who have made extra races... WHAT AM I MISSING?
