What changed in release Entrench. that killed my mod?

So I use a relatively simple, purely visual mod made up of things I'd collected from other people's wonderful work. It's mostly the visual-only parts of Bailknight's FX mod, with some new shield effects and planet textures thrown in.

It worked great during Entrenchment beta, and I even had luck making some new effects for the starbases, since they looked pretty puny next to the Bailknight guns.


Now that Entrenchment has been released, I did a complete re-install, and now my mod doesn't work.

Well, it's kind of working, so I know it's in the right place (new version-dependent mod folder, and all). The shield effects, phase jump effects, and textures work, but all of the gun projectiles, impacts, and muzzle flashes are plain vanilla now, and I don't think my exhaust mods are working, either.

Since this mod is made up of things I cannibalized from other people's mods, it's not like I know exactly how they worked, and why they aren't working now.


So, what changed between Entrenchment beta and release that killed my particles? Anyone know how I can go about fixing it? I miss those big flashes! ^_^

Check the particles folder of your mod. I don't know how it was in the betas, but the particles used to be oganized in folders (like Particle\Weapons\Tech\) and now they all have to be in the root Particle folder.

Thank you. That sounds like a likely problem.

Having checked, my mod does indeed have subfolders, and just glancing at them, it seems that all the particles that are not in subfolders are the ones that are working, like phase space jump effects.

I'll move them all into the root folder and see if that fixed the problem.
