Questions on makin maps and Single-player games!

Stupid questions do NOT require stupid answers!

When making maps:

can you choose where planets are located and where jump-lanes are?

can you choose where solar systems are located and which direction they are "oriented?" (left, right,up,down, etc.)

When playing single-player:

can you play with (up to) 9 AI?

can you play fixed teams up to 5 on 5?

You can make maps as you want with Galaxy Forge (available in downloads section) the ingame map editor isn't as powerfull, though. The answer to the rest your questions: yes you can.

The ingame generator basically allows you to adjust randomization parameters. You set the number of stars, planets. You can choose planet "groups" for it to randomize between: for example, you can set the map generator to pick 6 planets from a "colonizeable planets, no ice" list, and another 5 from "non-colonizeable" (junk, nebula, gas giants, etc). You can adjust average distances, phase lane lenghts, phase lane density (how many phase lanes there are on the map), neutral militia, so on so forth.

It's essentially a random map maker that you create the parameters for.

You can define the number of stars, number of planet groups a star has and what types and how many planets those groups contain, everything else is random. I've only used it once or twice though, i usually just use the random map in the map selection screen.

ah, ok thanx

now about the fleet supply max?

You start with 75/100/125 on small/normal/large fleet settings and end with 1500/2000/2500. It's not set per map, so changing it requires a quick mod.

how do you make mods anyway?

(never done it b4!)

It's pretty easy to mod for Sins. Basically just involves using Notepad to edit game files. Every object in the game (planet, star, ship, research topic) has its own entity file. Fleet point stuff has 8 research topics (so 8 files for each race) associated with it, so you just modify how many fleet points each one gives you. Or you can also modify the multiplier for the small/normal/large stuff. The default is -25% for small, +25% for large (so x0.75 for small and x1.25 for large) and you can change it to whatever.

awsome!...

but how do u get TO the game files to edit them???

(and if you change them can you put it back to normal later easily or do you have to go look it up,rewrite it, see if it actually works etc.?)

(i want to program things and i think this would be a cool way to start!)

You get to them by clicking the Downloads button on top of the page and getting the Forge Tools archive. They're all in there, and a sins_modset.pdf in the Documentation folder that gets you started with a tutorial.

can you mod it if you buy the CD from the store?

Sure. You'd still have to update the game, though.

u mean add entrenchment?

(srry im askin REALLY noob questions)

Nope, just update Sins. 1.0 version from the cd does not have mod support.

so you get the CD then update it so that galaxy forge works?

(i just wanna make sure my mind and money is in the right place)

and u update it from here?

You update the game through Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com) after you register the Sins cd key. ;) Or you can just buy it off Impulse, either as a download-only or download+box for instant access. You'll be able to download and play while your box is shipped.

another question on the fleet supply:

is that 75 for 1 fleet and you can get another?

or 2500 split between all of your fleets?

It's a global value. Each ship takes a certain amount of fleet points (capital ships take 50!), and you need to research to get more. You start with few, and grow it :)

Do note, however, that by upgrading the fleet cap you will lose part of your credit and resource income to upkeep, so if you have low income rates, keep your fleet cap low.

End of Annatar11's quote

soo...

it's split betweeen all of your fleets?

(kind of a strange answer ^^)

Sure, you can say that :P Nothing stopping you from having just one fleet, though.

you can mod it so you can have more supply tho right??!?!?!?!?!??
