Bigger Capital ships PLZ!

Bigger Cap. Ships plz?

Alight, i have owned this game for a year basically and on a high performance computer this game beats alot of strategy games hands down. This game could be soo much more epic if the capital ships were bigger and meaner looking with 10x the weaponary. if you have ever had an huge fleet battle then you can understand its pretty epic looking. but imagine if those capital ships were twice their size and had at least 5x the weapons on its sides, rear and front. not only would they put up more of a fight against a horde of frigates but it would amazing to watch. The more weapons a ship has the more interesting a battle becomes to watch. i also am going to propose that even frigates should have side and rear weapons aswell to make them give off a dazziling display.  tell me your thoughts because im very interested to see if anyone else agrees.

I think they should grow in size & cost as the game/research progesses.

Also the armor should work differently, more like real life. Hit with a hammer and nothing happens, hit a thousand times and nothing happens. So you would need heavy guns or armor piercing to do damage. Breach the armor and then, maybe, apply the light weapon hits.  Easier said than done, but maybe light weapon fire can be ignored until hull damage is 50% or 75%.

I'd really advocate an Yamato-Class Battleship in one of the micro-expansions in a sort of a super-Kol that would cost 5000 credits, 600 metal, 600 crystal. It would be bigger, badder, and have 5 flak turrets built in. 

All three factions would get this "Super-battleship" type capital ship.

Of course the fundamental problem with capital ships remains that Capital ships just go down way too fast to Strike Craft (instantly replacable) and light frigate spam. A general faction wide buff to all capital ships in form of slightly more hull points as well as benefiting more from research upgrades and Flak turrets would greatly greatly help in making Cap ships play a better role in Sins.

More wepons on ships is a great idea I am always for more eyecandy but damage per second should stay as it is to prevent balaceing issues.  Lots of dps mods have a detrimental efect on the game makeing counters inefective or makeing certain types of ships lack a good counter entirely.

The real armor idea has merit but I think the idea is that light wepons are being aimed at gunports, hager bay interiors and other weakpoints.  Perhaps capital ships should get a button up ability, launching or landing fighters is disabled and wepons cant fire.  In exchange the ship gains imunity from light wepons and incresed armor against heavy ones.

As for flak turrents on capitals I love it.  I have always wanted capitals to be able to better resist strike craft they simply have no change against groups of light carryers.  To be perfectly honest I cant beleve that any spacefareing race that builds capital ships and fighters would forget to put anti fighter wepons on said capital ships.

Super battleships not such a great idea think of how slow they would have to be for balaceing.  No point in a super battleship if it takes all day to get anywhere.  It is also putting your eggs all in one basket so to speak.  One ship can only be in one place if there is more than one attack one super ship can only stop one at a time.

Ok, my suggestion of a bigger badder Capital Ship is this:

A cap ship with just roughly 20-25% more hull points and 10% more shields. It'll cost 5000 credits, 600 metal + 600 Crystal compared to 3000 credits and 400 m/crystal.It'll take up 90 logistics points. It cannot be one of the starting free capital ships. Only obtainable after the 2nd capital ship logistics point research.

It'll have marginally more firepower than a typical cap (20%) and Flak turrets (equal to about 3 Flak Frigates)

It'll be able to carry 3 strike craft upgradable to 4, and it'll have special abilities such as the Ion Bolt, Flak Burst, and other (direct combat abilities) to make it a real battlewagon.

It'll by no means be invincible, it'll still go down to spam and in fact might be somewhat of a showpeice. It'll be like the super star destroyer in Star Wars or the Yamato in WW2, both went down due to being outnumbered and lost to strike craft spam. (lol) 

The heavy logistics points and huge cost of the ship will essentially make this ship unspammable. It'll be most useful as a "tank" to draw in fire while other ships take out the enemy ships. Because of its only marginally better firepower, it won't make sense to make more than 1 or 2 at max.

This is a good suggestion, I know many people will like.

The Rebel Alliance in Star Wars spammed Strike Craft and you know it! :D

They could be a man and duke it out, capital ship to capital ship with the Star Destroyers because they were weak.

Sounds like a very very cool idea!!  I like it! Now all we have to do is resize a cap from each race, say twice the size. Five times might be a little much, but hey, haha, we could give it a try and see if we like it or not.  :)  And then beef up the specs like you were saying and voila!!  Instant Bad Capital!!  :)  We have the tools right here in the forum, and i have used resize and the text converter to work with the meshes, but im no pro, just a newbie messing around.  :)  But its fun!!

they are already big enough, if they make them any bigger the scale of the game will be even more unrealistic. Make planets bigger then ships.

:)  Just an idea, i know several people have made bigger planets. But with the resize tool, wouldn't it be easier to make the ships "smaller"?  I mean half their size, right? then the planets become bigger by comparison, and the ships still retain their detail at 1x or 1.5x close up view. Of course we might have to rescale the beams and guass gun shells though, as they might appear way to big!!  I'm working on a Starbase mod for 1.12 and the base is 5x bigger, and the weapons look way too small, i mean the beams and plasma bursts. So im looking at increasing the beam width, but havent looked at the plasma's yet, so dont know how im going to try that one.

But smaller ships across the board for all races, might make for an interesting play. Gravity wells, will be twice as large then, haha, and we could make the ships faster, well, haha, i would have to tinker and see what looks right, but that might be a maybe.  :)

Small might be very cool!!  :)

This is completely off-topic. STOP telling people with ideas to implement them outside and mod it themselves because THE POINT of people posting their ideas here is to make it mainstream and include it in the main expansion.

The Sins multiplayer community is small enough as it is, and you think you'll find people willing to play mods as easily?

Such a red herring, come on guys give us real feedback.

alight when i posted this i said i want the ships bigger but sum1 said that it would become unrealistic? wtf? this entire game is unrealistic! i just want it to be cooler and have more bang for my buck you know. capital ships are weak but if they were stronger with added guns(flak, gun batteries, plasma turrets, mac guns) the first sight of a capital ship should strike fear in you and you should be like oh fuck a capital ship. and if you think this would make them cheap and that pple would just make a small fleet of unbeatable cap ships then there are ways to level out the playing field what i am proposing is that they just need to be bulkier, badass, and a real threat when they enter the field of battle. am i right or what?

Maybe in one of the micro-expansion we could get a new super-capital ship for each race? The capital ships are huge already, just zoom in to a fighter, and turn the camera towards the capital ships. The capital ships in Sins are a lot bigger than the ones in Homeworld 2, for example, but look smaller due to the scope of the game.

I really wish there was a size variance in planets though. I'm pretty sure the universe doesn't have a standardized planet size :grin:

It would be nice to have the option to make a capital ship 2x the size and power (only one per entire fleet) at of course, 4x the cost to offset the advantage.  Also slower speed, turning and moving as well, add more cooldown time for the weapons, but increase the antimatter size.

To be honest I dont know why everyone always want a bigger ship. Once you get your super ship then someone wants a super super ship and those good old classic Caps/Frigates/Cruisers get forgotten. There is no need or a Uber ship in SINS. Unless you mod it.

^^ Yes I agree, I would still like to see another capital though. Perhaps there could be a new prototype, able to be researched after the heavy cruisers or somewhere around there. It could have a bit more fire power and survivability say an extra 10% all round would be good, plus of course cost more to suit. I don't think it should use more crew though, especially if it was kept to a similar size as to what they are now.

You're not gonna be able to get a multiplayer game among strangers for mods making them very limited in playability.

I don't mind better and bigger ships, what I want is more estheically better looking ships, or update to the current image of the ships, if they can create more ships, they can certainly find ways to make the ships look better

listen, i think at least the capital ships need more weapons not only because it would look kool but it would make the capital ships stand a better chance against sum homo who masses frigates and creates a massive armada. the size thing is sketchy i agree but for mainstream i would deffienently add guns to the dam capital ships to ward off strike fighters and just scrap the flak frigate all together and give every ship at least one or more flak guns (just a new idea to think about). i understand if your tottaly against the idea of a ubber capital ship i am too but what im proposing is that "all" capital ships get a boost up of size (maybe) and weapons. this is an idea i would love a designer to see and hopefully implement into the expansions or patches. even if its only 2-3 more guns to each ship thats would be great. agree?
