Add abilities to planets

I am no mean a modder of anykind. I just dont understand half of it yet. But, I know alot of yall do. So is there a way to give and/or create a ability for planets? If so can I tie it into the emergency Facilities upgrade for planets?

1) YES, look at abilities like Plasma Storm or Asteroid Field..they are all abilities like to the "LocalOrbitBody" buff type.

 

As for linking them to emergency facility upgrade..I DO NOT THINK SO! You can link them to a RESEARCH that you could easily create and incorporate in he research tab of each race. BUT to my knowledge you cannot tie abilities to PLANETARY UPGRADES!

hmmmm...so can it be any ability or does it have to be like the plasma storm, a gravity field wide affect?

Not can be specific like my Planetary Shield generator for DOME mod...

Just change the buff type to apply to Local Orbit Body and BAM...it will only affect the planet in itself! VOILA!

Keep in mind that once a planet is colonized the colony UI replaces the ability UI, so any activated ability can no longer be accessed. Passives still work, and those on autocast probably do as well - you just can't click them yourself.

So, ok. Lets just use this as an example. I wanted to give a planet/or other body the ablility to disable ships within a certaint radius. Like using the ion bolt or phase hull out ability. Just as long as it on autocast it should work? Or can I turn a non passive skill passive?

You should be able to do either. ;) The autocast AI should still do its thing, you just won't be able to do it manually.

hmmmm... thats good to know. now lets see if I can do it right. These files are so overwhelming, lol. I have a new found respect for modders.

Oh and how do I add the ability to unlock this ability since I cant tie it to plant upgrades?

It will work just like any other ability, so there's a field to set a research pre-requisite ;) You can just take a look at Charged Missiles or any other ship ability that's unlocked through research for the syntax.

Very very cool!!   :)  I've been trying to figure out how to build a "timer" that will blow up the planet after a certain amount of time, say 30 minutes. I am trying to build a SpeedChess type of mod to make quick games for Sins.  :)
