some fun with the in-game map designer

Rather than try galaxy forge, i decided to se the in-game map designer to make a map template, so it would be randomly generated each time. The map size is set to minimum, with about 100 planets, 10 players, and 1 star. Phase lanes and resources are also at maximum. Here is the result:

as you can see, there is a lot going on. I have detailed screenshots, but those would stretch the page too much, follow the link and look at them if you want (they're the whole top row and the first one on the second row).

Summary of game state: the game has been running for about 45 minutes now, and it appears that most freidly AI were set to "colonizer": because we've pretty much won already by boxing our enemies in. However, the enemy AI most likely has some large fleets compared to ours, as i found out when trying to take an enemy controlled asteroid and had my entire fleet except my cap destroyed.

The problem with the Map Designer maps is that a great many of them end up being unplayable (takes too long to travel the phase lanes) and figuring out what factors will produce what kind of a result isn't very transparent.  I've spent hours messing around with it in the hopes of making some worthwhile maps that would auto-download for online multiplayer games (since Galaxy Forge made maps don't auto-download) and I can't say that I'm real fond of the "Map Designer".
