Is it possible to add weapon points to existing craft? Or to change them?

I suppose of course one would have to change the models as well so the weapon points match up with the pictures. But didnt know if it was possible to add more or to change them from their existing locations to other locations, say double mounted guns on the wings of the advent scout instead of single mounted? Anyway, just a thought.

I will have to fire up the developer.exe and open a file and see what it looks like, maybe then i can answer my own question. Sorry to bother anyone.

You'd have to do this on the model itself. One of the tutorial PDFs teaches how to get models ready for conversion and setting up the firing points and such, so this would be the reverse. Someone said at some point that there was a plugin for 3d Studio Max that let it open the Sins .mesh files so you could mess around with them, but otherwise there's no conversion proggy from .mesh to whatever format XSI uses (the program used on all the Sins models).

Ahhh... Thank you Annatar11!!  I was thinking i could use developer.exe, but since i am not a coder, then i am assuming the wrong program. At this point i am guessing developer.exe is used for something else. But anyway. XSI... i will have to see if i can locate a program that i can afford and use that will show me xsi files. But then again, when someone on the forum was explaining working with texture overlays on a model it was all over my head.  But anyway, i will see how badly i can mangle a texture file, haha, like the entity files it will probablly crash on load up, so i will know. Thank you for the help and take care.

Am waiting for Entrenchment to get here, that will be cool, perhaps i can put some of these crazy ideas away and just play a few games and relax, haha.  Take care and thanks again.

You can get the free and bit-more-barebones version of XSI here: http://www.softimage.com/products/modtool/

It's basically designed for modders to do their thing and it works pretty well. It's missing some advanced features, but should still be everything you need to learn modeling. There are some video tutorials and such for it, as well.

That said, the Sins files are converted from the XSI format into Sins' own .mesh. The XSI mod tool won't know what to do with them and I don't know if there's a plugin for it to open them. 3dSMax is the only modeling proggy I've heard of having that kind of plugin, but there's no free version of that AFAIK.

Ahhh.... Thank you, no problem. I will still take a look at the tool you mentioned. It sounds interesting and it will be a learning experience. By the time i get one that can look at .mesh, then maybe i will know a little something.  :)

Thank you as always Annatar, you are great!!  :)

Theres a free download of 3ds max..at least a trial version! Thats the one im using right now straight out of the main website! Few hundred mb's though but works like a charm!

Yup, looks like it's a 30-day trial only though. The XSI mod tool has no expiration or anything. It won't let you modify existing ships, but at least you can create your own with it if you learn modeling/texturing :P

:)  I was playing a little in 7DS last night and made up a special ops ship (secret, cant tell you yet, but its an advent design on the blackhole generator that was found on Altairan, after the Vasari wiped out that colony, but then moved on. Refugees have been move in-system by the Advent and Tec, but the generator was uncovered by the Advent) :)

I thought it would be nice to use a "different" model, as most of my "adjusted" ships now use current models, anyway, the mod-tool you mentioned Annatar, or the trial on 3dsmax that ShadowMastif mentioned sounds wonderful!  :)  Perhaps i can make a ship, but then of course, i will have to learn how to import it into the game. But maybe importing isnt the problem though, so that would be nice.  :)

Thank you to everyone for the help!!

Sincerely,

Believe me when I say: importing isn't the problem. It's making it :) There's a tutorial PDF in the modset download that explains how to import from XSI.
