Trouble in Icon-Only Mode

I've experienced this problem in 1.4 and 1.5beta.

When I'm in icon-mode, and there are many items (buildings, advertisements, and/or operatives) in a given state, if I try to select that given state, I can't. Instead it selects one of the items in the state. I click a spot that appears to be empty with soem empty space around it, and it still selects the item, rather than the state.

My computer is slow and either runs out of virtual memory or does run out when I near the end of a race, so it would be helpful to run icons-only. But I can't run the campaign if I can't check the polling data in the states with the most commotion.

Thanks for this forum and for reading my problem.

Hmm...you should be able to use the 'Icon Scale' slider to make those icons as spall as possible...or zoom in to open a section on the state that's clickable.

Let me know if these don't work and we'll look into a better solution :)

Thanks!

I tried it some more in 1.5beta, with icons toned down, and I ran into no problems for a while. But eventially I did still run into situations where I couldn't select a state, even in an open area. Here's a picture to help demonstrate:

Even when I click in the great  big space around the HQ in PA, it took many, many clicks to select it in this situation. I couldn't select WV, and I can't remember if I could finally click OH, or if it took many, many clicks as well. (And I am clicking in open areas where I see no icons).

I'm running into a new problem now. Several times when I play a campaign in 1.5b in this mode, it'll scroll to one side of the screen all by itself until only half of the country is shown. And when I try scrolling to where I want, with the mouse, keyboard, and zooming with the rolling mouse button, it keeps moving to the side. Until I restart the game. Then it may work fine for the rest of the game, or it may start out fine but within a few turns start scrolling to a different side by itself.

And sometimes some of the icons are invisible, like ads or my candidate

-thanks

Hmm...the billboard quads must be snatching up the message and not cycling through to the state. Hopefully an easy fix.

That scrolling problem is really weird...I think I saw that on a PAX machine a few times. We'll look into it :)

As for the insivible icons, do you have a saved game that reproduces that one?

Thanks for your feedback!

Here's a link to a SaveGame I uploaded. The SaveGame had the icon and the scroll problem when I opened it up.

Here's a pic. In Florida and Georgia, there should be HQ icons, but they don't appear.

While I'm talking about things disappearing, I have another small issue: in 1.4/1.5b, when I minimize TPM by Alt+Tab or something, and then switch back to it, several 3D elements of the bobble-heads will become invisible, in the opening screens, and, if I'm not in icons-only mode, in the game. It's hard to describe what's happening, so here are some more pics:

In the game, things that could disappear include whole bobbleheads, HQs, ads, or that little campaign jet (it's kind of funny to see just contrails going across the country instead of the plane).

Thanks very much for looking into these.
