Change pictures of the three races.

hello,

I just got this game and like what I see, but...

I would like to change the faces of the three races represented. Is it easy as with some other games? Can I just jump into a folder with ready pictures of a certain res and pop them in? if so, can you give me the basic details of which folder and the ideal resoultions, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Quick answer. Now I just need to figure out the way it works. It`s interesting how the pics are all together, like photo slides. Thankyou!

Well, you'll need a proper editing tool to edit TGAs, first of all, and these operate kinda like buttons for GUI skins.

The new pictures need to be put exactly where the old ones were. I'm not sure if it would just work by adding new pictures there. There could be some more files that need to be edited to show the new pics ingame.

Well I have photoshop. I was wondering if it would work by just cutting out a custom Tga portrait and sticking it over the top of the originals? I`m kinda just guessing really.

I added pics of races to my Galactic Civilizations 2 game using photoshop. I used photoshop to convert the data files of the pictures to match the data files of the race pictures in the game files. I then placed the new pics with the originals and copied the names of the files exactly, except changed the race pic number, so that the game would detect them and it worked.

I would assume it would be the same for SoaSE only the pics would go into texture folder. Just ensure that you copy the file name and type so the game recognizes it.

ex. original- Player_Portrait_TEC_3.tga

new- Player_Portrait_TEC_4.tga

(just an example, did not check actual file name)

This will add the pic and keep the original, but if you don't want the original just copy file of the pic you are replacing exactly.

Hope this helps and good luck!

yea for player portraits you can just past them right over becasue all tgas have an alpha channel for the pic and the alpha for the portrait is just a whit block but for race logos its a little harder i use dxtbmp to edit all the tga files cause it gives you the alpha and the regular to edit and you can save as a tga file i changed my portraits to halo characters
