what does armor and shield mitigation do?

what does armor and shield mitigation do?

i have been trying to figure out what does it do in your ships... does it subtract the damage that is going to hit you?

 

if you have 6 armor does it mean that when yoy are hit by a 98 laser damage means that you are goint to be hit by 92... lol

Shield mitigation is a percentage damage reduction. So if you're at 60% mitigation and you get shot for 100 damage, you'll only take 40.

Armor is a little different, and you can read up on it in this recent thread.
