Honor Harrington mod?

Hey all :) I have NO modding abilities at all, so I was just putting it out there to see if anybody is interested in working on or already is working on a Honor Harrington universe mod for SoaSE. I'm a huge fan of a the book series and have always wanted the chance to play a game that took place in that universe :)

watch out for cease and desist orders, they are violently protective of the IP

Thanks for the heads up EvilleJedi! Have they gone after modders in the past?

I'm glad to see some folks interested in this! Like I said, I have no modding abilities at all, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open for people who might have made ship models :) Hopefully this project can become a reality at some point :D

Yes. We were toying with building a HH-universe mod in the Homeworld 2 game engine.

SoaSE doesn't really lend itself well to a HH-universe mod in terms of the combat, though. There's no shield facings which is critical to their style of combat, ships don't accelerate/decelerate when fighting, there are no counter-missiles. All of that stuff can likely be coded/modded in, but generally the HH universe ships themselves are butt ugly, looking like giant hotdogs with eight-sided dice screwed on both ends.

I didn't realize Baen was that bad... I know Lucas Arts tends to be, though!

That's why you make it in secret, then release it on torrents.

I think if David Weber got involved or was kindly asked or maybe kidnapped and beaten into submission then maybe there would be no IP issues, then again I am probably mistaken like everything else. You know how those Peeps can be. The Honorverse is a big place gots to Galaxy Forge it first then go from there. Tally ho and good hunting.

No, IIRC (and it was a while ago so I could be wrong), it was because another gaming organization had the rights. I didn't see the correspondence myself, but scuttlebutt was that they were civil about it, but firm, and the green light was not provided.
