Newbie needs help with multiple star systems

First post here, so hey all!

I have been playing some 1-on-1 matches against an easy computer to get the hang of the TEC ships and such. I now started a huge map (4 star systems) with 9 easy AI, non-locked teams.

I was doing fairly well until I realised that wormholes also lead to other star systems! I figured you could only navigate between the stars and was therefore working on using the star in my starter location as the chokepoint. To my surprise I am being attacked through 2 wormholes as well (there 4 wh's in this start system).

Am I supposed to block of all 5 entry points or should I position a fleet in the other most active star system? Any tips appreciated.

well if you can/have enough planets upgrade your fleet points and build 2 fleets
one for defence and one for offence boost up your defences where you being attacked
so you can hold on untill your defence fleet arrive.
also i found out this is the best attack fleet:
1 kol
4-5 carriers/bombers
30-40 cobalts
35 lrm [missile]
10-20 heavy cruisers
4-5 siegecraft-hold back your siege craft by one jump if you going to attack a planet
clear the enemy ships first because the always target your siege craft first
for defence fleet about the same but no siegecraft[doh] maybe enlarge you carrier group
by 15 or something if you can good luck hope this helps

Excellent post, ray! I've noticed that about the siegecraft too. How did you figure out that that proportion is the best? Did you do the math or play various ones and watch... ? Just curious! I do something very similar, altho because I dislike having to micromanage every battle, I usually slot in two cap ships, one is firepower, one has a shield/colonizing, or other support features. I particularly like having shield restore, the fleet lasts forever that way and soon you've unlocked all the cap ship abilities.

Oh and I meant to mention: you should try unlocking hanger defenses and place as many as you possibly can (by tactical slot upgrades, scuttle other things...) at your most likely to be hit planets. If you can get four or more stacked they will frighten away cap ships.

i just played with various fleets and found out this is the best i add the
heavy cruisers because most of the time ai target them first so thats where the cobalts and lrms coming in too destroy the ships one by one [almost without loses] i also creat fleet and set
too close fleet so they wil stay together thats very important for maximum firepower

ohh and i build the carriers for fighters to defend against enemy bombers

A nice mix of offensive and defensive ships is needed. You need to get out there and explore and attack, but also defend the home system. I too was surprised at how quickly the AI's start using the WH *worm holes. You can't get to that research area until you get 4 or 5 Military or Civilian Research stations up and running. I find that the AI likes to do hit and run tactics. They will pop into your system and see what you have, if you are able to defend, they will run more likely then try to fight it out. But watch out, they'll be back in just a few clicks. Good Luck.

for defence get as much orbital defences as you can, often enemy AI will jump in see all that and turn around and jump out again. Pirates ofcourse dont care they go strait for the planet. if pirates are a big problem that you cant get to right away let the planet closest to the base have nothing in orbit, they will destroy the construction ship and then leave.
