my experience with the ai

Sadly like other real time strategy games sins has an ai that isn’t that challenging.

The last game that I played was an ffa on a 58 planet map with one star versus three hard ai. I was the Vasari and my plan was simple, make a cease fire with the two closest opponents until a got enough phase stabilizers online to have a huge fleet via the dark armada. First off getting the cease fires was way too easy.  I gave the purple advent ai 1000 credits a couple of times and then she is asking for a cease fire.

The same thing with the yellow Vasari. Before these alliances I wasn’t really attacked at all. I managed to send a small fleet (5-10) of frigates and the cap ship that can colonize to the worlds closest to my home world and colonize and hold the planets without any major problems.  Then when the alliances were forged I began to research up to the phase stabilizers and the dark armada. I pretty much ignored any missions from the ai and eventually started to build 5-6 phase stabilizers. I was still on good terms with purple but not so good with orange. Still there was no breaking of the cease fires until I thought I had enough of a fleet. Then I broke both cease fires I started to attack orange’s planets since he was closest.

Did purple take advantage of the situation, no. She asked me for a cease fire and the same with yellow. I accepted the one with purple and resumed attacking orange until he was destroyed. Then I went after yellow. During this time purple did nothing, either though it was clear I would attack her after I was done with yellow. She did break the cease fire but only after I had a full fleet cap and yellow was almost dead. So it didn’t mean much.

To summarize the hard ai in sins isn’t too hard because it is too passive makes alliances too easily and breaks the alliances only after it is too late. Of course I have yet to try unfair.
