random teams replacement ideeas(until we get random teams in game:) https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/303788

ignore links in replies below, this is the newest(besides the older links don't work)

changelog:

now they work with 1.03

Link:

http://files.filefront.com/w0lfshad3s+random+map+pac2rar/;9811315;/fileinfo.html

ONLY HOST NEEDS TO HAVE THEM

game note:

To play 2v2 3v3 on maps with 2 stars and have team in same star do this: start the game with unlocked teams and people ally with people in their own star, i can't guarantee position of players on the map, it's random map pack - know what i mean? :P (well ok IDK how to set teams on a certain star but i don't care much anyway i regard random teams to be fair teams :) This way you get random teams so no more bickering about stacked teams of elites vs newbs as it ussually happends.

Install:

Put it in(to apear in custom maps - WInXP PRO SP2 dunno about Vista there should be the maps path somewhere else around this forum; i saw it):

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

where username is your PC user name

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

after that pick them from custom maps while in game, one right click away from small maps

GAME BUG!

For path below, if you put maps there and host from small medium large maps the other players will get that they don't have the files(haven't tried what happends if they download the files in that path, might work but it sucks that way), but it works with the above path taking them from custom files in game :-/

or here(to appear according to number of players in all the other categories):

D:\Games\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

notes:
maps with uneven number of players/star are balanced by terms of number of planets
mini maps have ~33% less planets
wormholes can link stars, and mostly do
pirates are rather close to the sun than the players(10%-50% of distance from sun)
tripled artifacts in galaxy from 15% to 45% (ussually 1 every player now there's 3 every player)
increased planet bonus from 40% to 50% chance

Rule of thumb formula:

map size minimum of ingame editor
orbit minimum of ingame editor
*don't want homeworld zones to link
2 players lanes 80% chance
3 players lanes 70% chance
4+ players lanes 60% chance

each star has at least 1 pirate bases to 1 every 3 players (rounded to closest integer)
so 9 playes can have 1-3 while 5 can have 1-2
each star has 1 wormholes every 3players (rounded to closest integer)
so 9 playes can have 1-3 while 5 can have 1-2
each star has a random-mix(planets-asteroids-specials) of one each player + players/2(rounded to closest integer) to two each player + players/2(rounded to closest integer)
so 10 players have 15-25 objects
each star has a random-asteroids of one to one each player
so 10 players have 1-10 asteroids
each star has a random-planets of one each player + players/2(rounded to closest integer) to two each player + players/2(rounded to closest integer)
so 10 players have 15-25 planets
each star has a random-special of one to one each player
so 10 players have 1-10 specials

There's no reason for these maps and any mods to not work togheter AFAIK. If they don't, let me know please. This is a set of maps not a mod, so they shouldn't interfere with eachother.
seems hardly any1 is interested in ur maps. ill give em a go though.
How do you tell? :P
If you figure that by number of downloads you should take into account that is a new download(from only a couple of hours ago). They been downloaded a couple of tens of times just not the latest, wich doesn' t have anything new.

To try them you don't have to play them, go to map designer while in game, select a map and press PREVIEW. They also been played for two weeks, the balance is the result of real play :)
well cause people dont express their opinions of ur maps in this thread. but hey maybe they are just enjoying ur maps too much to comment on em right? ;)

It was in Multiplayer subforum until now since feb 17, i moved it here today and immediately i got replys :) You don't know the guys i'm playing with.

Hi, dont want to be rude but i think you need to be more clear on your post and deal with the adverised map pack 1st then sell your guides and ideas after :)

im getting confused a little.

just want to downlaod and install and my mates would too if we were sure on what to do!

Also as your making maps :)

can you tell me on the in game designer what

min/max distnace (whats this?)
min//max count(amount of planets in planet groups)
orbit radius(radius os sun system) i think!
phase length (whats this?)
phase lane chance (whats this?)

also the bars are red left to green right! which is smaller and larger ?

thank you.

sell your guides

hey! you're right! where's my money? :D

just want to downlaod and install and my mates would too if we were sure on what to do!

allready explained in the first post:

Install:

Put it in(to apear in custom maps - WInXP PRO SP2 dunno about Vista there should be the maps path somewhere else around this forum; i saw it):

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

where username is your PC user name

after that pick them from custom maps while in game, one right click away from small maps

also

ONLY HOST NEEDS TO HAVE THEM

min/max distnace

It's the range within where solar system object cordinates are generated.
Suppose the solar system area is represented by a circle, then the radius is the length on wich planet coordinates are randomly generated. They could have done this like considering a quadrant in a cartesian system and generating x, y values randomly within certain ranges(between origin and max radius length)then checking if they intersect a circle of C(0, r), then passing through filters checking wether system objects are too close too eachother or intersect each other etc. I haven't researched on the mathematical model of doing this.

min//max count(amount of planets in planet groups)

Tthere's a random change to get more or less planets, those are the minimum and maximum values within wich the actual number of planets will be randomly found.

orbit radius(radius os sun system) i think!

look at:

min/max distnace

phase length (whats this?)

distance between system objects(relevant where there are lanes within the game)

phase lane chance (whats this?)

This is a random chance system made by the random generator maker with wich there is generated the number of lanes a certain system object has. This could've been done like this:
suppose there can be 5 lanes maximum every system object
we generate a random number between 1 and 100 or 0 and 99 and make the convention:
ranges:
0-19 1 lane
20-39 2 lanes
40-59 3 lanes
60-79 4 lanes
80-99 5 lanes
Depending on wich number gets generated we compare vs our convention then find out how many lanes thi sparticular system object has.
After this we can pass though a filter from wich we can find out if there are enough other system objects in range(depending on phase lane length perhaps wich is dependant on system diameter and orbit radius) then we link this system with the other systems wether they are in range or not. If not one is in range we convene by default that there must be minimal 1 link between any two objects in the system and link with the nearest regardless of phase length. The complexity of getting these facts can be much more refined though.

also the bars are red left to green right! which is smaller and larger ?

red is minimal green is maximal
so the left is 10% i think and the right is 100%
you can edit the maps with any text editor and see for yourself the values

can't edit my first post again for some reason

EDIT:

anyway from FAQ paths are:

Where are the files kept for Sins of a Solar Empire

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

Note: If you're running the game through Stardock Central under Windows Vista, it will save your game settings under an Admin folder: C:\Users\ADMIN_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

We are working to correct this behavior.

Some ideeas fro random teams i been using:

************random races for random teams********************

races of same kind ally with eachother for half the number of players(for equal teams) or less**
example a 4 player game(2v2):
*there's 2 of same kind and two of different kind game is valid, the two of same kind ally and two of different kind also for 2v2
*two of same kind and two of another kind, game valid, 2v2, they ally per race
*for a 6 player game it's 3 per race or 3 per race and 2 per race in wich case the lonely guy allies with the 2 per race for a 3v3 vs the 3 per race team
**if for example on a 6 player maps theres 2 of each kind i don't recommend 3 teams, it will end in a 4v2 somehow, or use the multi way game straategy i will explain below***(multi way FFA)
*more players per race than half of players => remake

************right hand rule, one star map*******************************
2 people are chosen at first, than they ally with the people to their right, in case more player per game the players that received alliance also ally with people on their right
If it happends that there's the other first player to the right rule can go two ways, wiha left hand rule, allying to the left, or let that first player complete his team with right hand rule than the remains go to first team

************this is a multi way FFA, especially 3 way rule******************
***people can start by taking any planet from any of the opponents, but once he taken a planet from one opponent he is forbidden to take another from him until he takes a planet from the other opponent, so, the trick is holding on to the planets and this way teh game doesn't go 2v1 in a 3ppl FFA

for the multi way FFA rule, it would be better to extend rule to all the attacks, one can only attack one player at a time(the one that is allowed to take planet from) but defend again any number of players inside his or neutral territories(non planet wells excluded, thos should be FFA :)
