First tier Civic techs need some love.

Had a discussion with Leinad in IRC today, and we both feel the 1 lab techs need love! They are good techs but they are not worth researching till later in the game, unlike tier 1 military techs. We both feel that moving colonize tech to tier 1 and moving the others up a tier would be best.

This is especially true for Vasari who seem to have a terrible time with the Civic techs. I think Vasari need civic overhaul because 4 lab tradeports are really terrible, and 3 lab Refineries are not worth it! Because it still costs extra research to get to them, on top of that they cost 1500 credits a Pop! Try putting up refineries without tradeports :O

Yes, well, the Vasari aren't known to be the economic power houses. ;)

A lot of the tier 1 upgrades are actually quite useful (especially planet population/raid detection for those races that have it as tier 1)

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. Right now, on random maps, I'm usually building two civic research centers more or less as soon as I can, followed by the volcano / ice planet techs. After that, I usually build a military center and start working on the first tier of that instead of any civic tier 1. Planet pop increases are more important with more planets, not at the beginning of a match. And the Advent tech speed increase? More useful when you actually have sizable coffers and start getting research queues.
