System requirements

I have a 1.99GHz processor with 512Mb RAM. The FAQs say 2GHz with 128Mb RAM. Will it work or not?

I know nothing about these things...

1.99 = 2 for CPU purposes, though what sort of performance you can expect will depend a lot on your video card and just what type of CPU you have.

With 128MB of RAM the game will most likely be unplayable. That said, is that your RAM or your video memory your reporting? If its the former (given the very low amount), I'm wondering if you even have a P4 (the processor the rating is based on) or an older, "inferior" piece of hardware.

Do you know what video card you have? That is also very important.

It's 128MB of video RAM, not system RAM that's the minimum. 512MB of free system RAM on WinXP should suffice.

Yeah, thats my point -- those numbers he gave would be fine for a video card, but not for system memory.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700VE with 256MB adapter RAM.

I think that's fine, my main question is whether the processor will cope.

Your processor can cope -- but 128MBs of ram just won't cut it. An FX... well, its pushing it.

Read what I said: My computer doesn't have 128MB RAM, that's what the minimum requirements for the gmae want. My computer has 256MB system RAM and 256MB video card RAM

I am thinking you might be pushing it , but it will run, just not very well even on the lowest settings. 256MB of system RAM is what I had back in 1998... What kind of video card is it? Does it support Shader 3.0 and Dx9?

Thats odd... I must have been thinking of another thread. That said:

The minimum system requirements are:

- Windows XP SP2 / Vista
- 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
- 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
- 128 MB 3D DirectX 9 Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
- DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
- DVD-ROM Drive (for retail copies)
- 3 GB Hard Drive Space
- Keyboard and Mouse
- DirectX 9.0c

It requires 512 MBs of system ram to runt his game -- you can probably run it anyway, but it may or may not be "fun" because of all the caching your system will be doing.

Funny..that's a different min spec than I read. Maybe it hasn't been finalized yet.

I got it wrong by the way, I actually have 512MB system RAM.

How do you guys think this would do:

3.4Ghz processor
2 gig ddr2 RAM
ATI Radeon X1600pro 512mb video card
Windows XP
DVD drive
Crap loads of HD space

beats the hell out of my old desktop, and I can oftentimes squeeze it into giving me AA on high without lag, so you have no problems.
yeah shouldnt be an issue, but I dont speek graphics card like ron does, so I dont know about that :P
Reply #14 Top
Yea, i'm kinda paranoid about how good my computer is, i'm very much a gamer and my computer has to reflect that. :)
does being able to run more AA than you can notice count? Unless you have a small monitor and good eyes, you most likely can.

Sorry, "AA"? Also if it helps answer the question i have a 19" monitor

Antialiasing -- it makes jaggies go away.

Anyway, the system just should run sins. The video card is a little low, but doable.

That said...

This is a reminder: archetecture is just as important as raw speed. A 2 GHz Core 2 Duo will destroy a 3 GHz P4 any day.

my old desktop has a slower P4, less ram, a 6800 gts (think it's older, but i'm not sure about ati nonclemature), so you should be covered for intense graphics, because it runs great for me on the same sized monitor.

most likely, and definitely gorgeous. If you could tell me the nVidia equivalent for your vid card, I could give you a better answer, but I very successfully run on all high with only a few spots of lag at the beginning, so you should be set.

What are the actual harddisk requirements?

Not that I'm worried about my rig under perfoming (3.20 GHz CoreDuo, 6GB Ram, 8800GTS, 1.3TB Harddrive)

Just curious
