Carrier Question

Let's say that you have a carrier and it's fighters/bombers are out attacking an enemy ship. The carrier somehow gets destroyed in the battle. What happens to the fighters and/or bombers. Do they get destroyed as well, or what?

They slowly degrade in HP until they go boom, actually.

yup, can be pretty irritating because they can stick around for a while. makes carriers low on the priority list of targets during combat :P

But if you were stuck in space with a full tank of fuel and full bays of ammo, but no carrier to go home to, wouldn't you want to kill as much stuff as you could before you ran out of fuel?

Die Hard

no, i'd try to land elsewhere :P
otherwise, if it's certain death, then yes, I'd take the bastards with me.

Obviously, fighters/bombers with no ship to return to should just kamikaze into enemy ships, doing 1000% more damage per craft. That'll ensure that killing carriers is a lose-lose situation

unless, that is, you beam a nuke aboard their carrier and initiate a hyper jump to another system before they can hit you!

They should just land on the planet or asteroid they are at until help arrives!

Hmm yes I'm going to waste resources to rescue pilots that can be easily replaced with equally skilled ones.

lol they pop in an explosion bigger than it should be ;p

It's the law of flashy effects. Everything is always bigger than it should be :P

Dutch

I believe what you are asking about is a ship subsystem sort of feature, right? If so the answer is no the ships in sins do not have them, just sheilds, hull(hp), and antimatter(mp). But there look to be many abilities focused on disabling the enemies in ways similar to certain systems getting hit (slowing them down, stopping them from warping, stopping their attacks, weakening their shields, etc).

No, you can't really customize your ships that way, and there are no hardpoints to destroy. Capital ships are similar to hero units from Warcraft 3 (if you played it), they go up levels and you pick out abilities for them.

Dawn of Victory will feature customizable weapons for mostly heavy frigate and larger ships. You won't be able to outfit light cruisers with heavy deck guns, but it's a pretty neat system.

When I read this I wondered about one of the abilities of fighters/bombers in this game; can they, like in Homeworld 1, kamakazie into enemy units?

That would make taking out the carrier a risky situation, but then again, not taking out is even more risky as a player could use that technic to take out frigates or other ships (Though the only way to get new fighters to return to port)

Though if someone here can answer my first question, I'd appriciate it :)
