Wars around the sun and issues.


Having played it a bit, online and offline, I must say I have a few things to add...some which I've spoken of before.

I find it strange that we enter a system at the sun..and then move outwards, it would be more interresting if we started at outer planets and moved in..

Secondly I'd like to say that the sun is far to big a chokepoint atm...
It will in all practicality decide wether you have control of a system..or not.

As all incoming ships enter there, its also easy to predict where the enemy will come from and camp that spot...making entries to the sun very messy affairs indeed.

I think two things should be done to counter this.

A) perhaps give access to land at other places in system..maybe 'outer' planets.

b) make the sun battleground larger...entrypoints bigger and more varied..and reduce the size of the sun..so we actually have a big field to play on.

It gets silly to have all our battles in such a cramped location.

Having the sun as a choke point will make for some epic battles, because everyone, and their mother will camp it. Add to that the antimatter regen bonus. However you cant build anything in a suns grav well. So no PJI's to worry about. There is a chance you can escape the battle (slim, but a chance).

I do see your point, but i believe the devs pointed out that the only way to jump between stars is using jump lanes that connect to stars. I am all for more than 1 point of entry, but we don't want to turn this into "whack a mole" ether.

I would be epic, if the battlearea was a bit bigger yes...

Atm its cramped, and not much can fit before the place becomes a zoo...

Just reduce the sun..its not like we're fighting 2 meters from it anyway ..

Funny, there's another thread floating about where people want the sun made bigger.

Anyway, it is indeed intentional that stars are a big focus for battles in multi-system games.

Actually I would like to see a mixture of sizes from small dwarfs to massive super giants.

I've started doing that in my mod, I have stars randomizing what abilities they have as well as between the 'regular' size and 150% size. I could add a 50% and a 125% and a 200%.

Stars could use a narrower phase jump angle. As it is, there are too many invading fleets that reach your star, turn their ships a few degrees and can jump to your nearest planet.

If the jump zone around stars were reduced a bit, it might force more invading fleets to actually fight instead of instantly being able to jump to your nearest planet.

Yeah, atm its just about finding the jump in angle, and camp that spot.

So that the fleet who arrives will be thrown straight into a battle.
Thats just not as fun sounding as you may think.

They may have considered the sun as a battelground, but they could have made that battleground far more interrested imho.
