LordKosc's Vasari Mod (Truthful to the LORE)

LordKosc's Vasari Mod (Truthful to the LORE)

I Felt the Vasari were missing that extra kick-ass-ness I figured they would have... I am working on Version 0.2 , I might reduce the shield and hull buffs to both 20% on the cap ships (once cap ships reach level 5-6 along with shield an hull research buffs they become GOD LIKE), and increase the default beam damage by 5% along with a longer duration for the beam so its less "flashy disco like"...

Change log:

It fires in pulses instead of a continuous stream. Probably supposed to sound cool, but the practical reasoning is that your power capacity is beyond the tolerances of the systems you can pump it through, so you use pulse modulation to let it fire as long as possible without overheating.

Which pretty much answers the question of types of weapons that can be used for what ship types. Which is pretty much anything your imagination can make up. (Now looks into making crew members hanging out portholes with baseball bats)

Oh well... At least he's right about them being horrific cheese with a slow start even if he is a complete asshat on every level.

What's an 'asshat'?

internet slang for prick

pff, please.

Oh blah Schem, you're just jelous of Kosc's amazingfulness.

On another note there is an explanation for the way Cobalts fire... and that is different laws of physics, duh.

you guys are constantly berating the devs, I'm their vocal guardian.

for now, at least.

And... why does that make it look like projectile fire?

Bull and Shit. Just because people say they would like this or that a different way doesn't mean they are berating someone. The vast majority always take the care to say that they appreciate what a great game this is, whenever they do make a critique. You know the sort of courtesy that people give each other that you seem to have a hard time grasping.

If its a laser it'll travel at the speed of light and you won't see it moving. Just like how you turn on a flashlight and it appears to instantaneously hit a far away wall, so too would the laser hit the ship nearly instantaneously. To have an effect with say a half second travel time between the firing ship and its target you'd need to be firing from half a light second away. Half a light second is 149,896.229 kilometers or 93,141.1985 miles distant to the target. For comparasion, the diameter of the Earth at the equator is only 12,715.43 kilometers or 7,926.41 miles. So this means assuming a maximum firing distance of equal to the diameter of the Earth (and I'm being very generous as the firing distance in Multi's videos, thanks for those Multi!, was much smaller than the diameter of the planets) the a laser beam would travel across that distance in approximately 1/25 of a second. You wouldn't see anything at all besides damage being done to a ship. Now a more realistic weapons technology would be plasma weapons. They can potentially be rather destructive and would travel well below light speed. That explanation works better given the in-game graphics.

Plasma dissipates rapidly does it not?

The physical appearance of a laser in space is nothing. You can't see any of the EM spectrum when there's nothing to bounce off of, particulate in space is miniscule compared to atmosphere, it might as well be a true vacuum for seeing a beam of light. It would be a bright spot on the ship and a bright spot on the target. A pulse laser would flicker. Don't be overly anal about what it looks like, reality will only be worse.

not when you have a projectile in the middle with a magnetic field generator

of course all the other ship would have to do is have magnetic plating or a giant electromagnet on the hull to weaken the field and poof your plasma is scattered all over.

saying they dont hold to what they've been telling you for the last 2 years (aka calling them liars) is.

well then the plasma will do its damage, just more shotgun style
And... why does that make it look like projectile fire?

ion bolts, well, they kindof need a bolt. like carbs said

GOD man, you never stop putting salt into the wound do you?

nobody is calling them liars, there are 2 groups in this community, the one your in, where you like what they are maybe with a few twikes here and there. The other group is grandgnu, lordkosc me and others where we believe this is Truthful to the LORE

The constant bickering benefits noone In the end, the devs will do what they feel is best for the game. The best either 'group' can do is just make their opinion known, but not try to bash it into the other as being the 'right' opinion. It was never our job to design the race. We're in the beta to find bugs and tweak balance issues, and offer some suggestions to make the game easier to play and jump into.

Let's stop the constant fighting about how the Vasari were expected to be and how they actually are and focus on ironing out the relevant issues instead? Let people enjoy the mods they want to create without harassing them, but the mod makers shouldn't include jabs at others, either.

There, how's that for a slap on the wrist to both sides?

Schod:

Multianna, LordKosc and myself are not calling the dev's liars. We are paying customers who are excited about their product.

We are simply relaying to them what our expectations were with the product, and how we feel it will not meet those expectations given recent developments.

In the end, their goal is to make a profit, on current and future titles. This is best accomplished by ensuring that they deliver products that meet the wants of their customer base. We are only trying to let them know what we like and expect in our purchase. You are doing the same, albiet a bit more militant in your approach.

Pulling out the 'I'm a paying customer' card is equivalent to shooting yourself in a foot.. with a rocket launcher.

I dont see why thats a problem, he is just saying as 'paying customers' we have the right to let our voice be heard

Guys, guys, guys!  Ease up!

Sins is a game. It's not a physics simulation.

Pulse lasers look the way they do because that's how lasers have typically always looked on sci-fi in TV and movies (that's the style we're going after). We're not going after total realism here and it was never our intent to do so. If we where then you'd never see the laser weapons anyway except for shield impacts.

VERY TRUE!
I'm just saying that players like us are very excited about the potential this game has. And we're the type to not only purchase this and future products, but to also talk up a game we enjoy (in this forum, in our blogs or other forums, etc.) which helps to bring in more sales volume and attention to a developer.

These guys don't have the marketing power and dollars of an EA behind them on this game, but support from the fans can never hurt in getting the word out about this game.

Regardless of what they do with the vanilla races in this game, I think a lot of people will find the most enjoyment when they can use this engine to play Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, Stargate, etc. mods for it.

Not that the work on the developers races and storyline won't interest us as well. But the thought of having Super Star Destroyers, Vorlon Planet Killers, Cylon Base Ships, Borg Cubes, etc. is just too much to pass up!

the problem is grandmu, that all of you are going about it in a way that is 100% aggressive and derogatory, with statements like "you guys didnt blah" and "it was supposed to be like blah" and "I really was expecting blah which wasnt delievered"

its the completely wrong way to go about it.

although the explosions would be much more impressive, which I'm fine with

Okay, are you telling us how to be polite in posts? Seriously? That's the most hilarious thing I've read in a while.
