How would one go about upgrading their preorder

No official policy has been posted on the subject, but here's the gist from when I last asked sales about the matter:

- If you're already in and have been charged (or used TGN), you'll need to wait until release, then contact sales@stardock.com about purchasing a retail box.

- If your preorder hasn't been charged yet, you can contact sales@stardock.com about it now and get it changed before it gets charged.
