Quick scoring question -- tiny ships and military starbases

If I create a 4x4 military starbase array with all the ship attack/defense enhancers, and park a bunch of 1 attack/1 defense tiny ships in range, does this inflate military score? Or does only unmodified ship attack/defense matter?

It will certainly effect your in-game military rating, though whether it will effect the end-game score, you'd have to hear from someone who's tried it.

Simple way to test it--build the tinies and enough constructors to make the starbases at the end of a game, save, finish, and look at your military score. Then reload the save and build the starbases, finish again, and look at your score.

Oh, I was under the impression that your final score was determined by some sort of average of your scores every turn of the game (in which case what you do on the very last turn can't make a real difference no matter what), rather than just being determined by what you had at the end. Okay, I'll run an experiment like this.

I ask because I spent a bit of time figuring out really cost-effective ways to achieve military dominance, and it turns out that relying on ~5 fast medium ships to kill everything (thanks to utter tech dominance) results in a terrible military score, so now I need to figure out a different approach for metaverse games.

It is, but if it's a small, short game, it should make a noticeable bump if it has an effect at all.

The short answer is yes. Your military score is based on your military ranking. You can see the change in your military ranking as you move ships in and out of the influence area of the military starbase. Therefore your military score is increased by keeping ships in the influence area of military starbases.

Actually your score is based on the integral of the appropriate curve (i.e. the area under the curve) this isn't quite the same as the average but the idea that to noticeably increase the score you need to have elevated levels over long periods of time is correct.

I find it's best to incorporate the building of your military array as part of your overall strategy. If you build it early it will keep you out of wars you don't want and allow you to end a war on more favorable terms, for example being able to demand planets in exchange for peace. What it won't do is help you actually win the war. Think of the array as a Spin Control Center on steroids. Also note that putting your highest attack value ships in orbit around a planet with a SCC increases your military score as well.

Once ships become obsolete I just park them under my array and leave them there for the remainder of the game. One caveat emptor, this will definitely increase your military score but try not to be too disappointed when this fails to double or triple it.
