Upgrading ships system

I think for the Dark Avatar expansion (or even version 1.4 of GalCivs 2), a new method of ship design should be used. At the moment, I end up with upto 10 versions of the same ship with upgraded weapons. However, when I start a new game, I generally like to change the lot out to match my circumstances. Therefore, the 10 designs in my list become junk. What would be nice is if you could have one central design (without the functional components), and a version number for each generation of the ship. Then, in a new game, only the core is imported.

Or something.

Cheers.

You know, you can just do this anyway, by designing a ship design and then upgrading it, and deleting the others.

i make a weapons/equipment free ship and one for the weapons /equipmemt during the game i use the one for weapons the game will auto upgrade ships unless you cancel it ie

wasp free of weapons equipment

wasp 1 for weapons and equipment

the only problem i run into is when my ship can use equipment that it could from the last game that shows up it just doesn't have any effect

you just to erase it to when your doing an upgrade

You know, it would be nice to have the ability to upgrade a ship component in place without removing the old one and adding the new one.

I know, but its a pain in the butt when you have to do it 20 times.

Just do it directly from Windows Explorer between games.
It is much easier to multiple select items for deleting that way.

I just obsolete/delete the ancient designs as I play to keep my screen uncluttered with steam powered warships.

You all see what the bot's do right? Well I do anyway because I like keeping an eye on what they do, and 'borrowing' there tactics, to an extent. Anyway like I was saying.

The AI have the same hull for a ship, but instead of deleating old designs and so on they simply add a mark onto it. For example Frigate M1-09 or somthing like that. I simply took that and used it in my ship designs, in a game im currently playing and have won in every posibly way (were have all the end game movies gone?!?!?!) I have about 4 difrent mark ships, that way as i progress threw a new game I dont have to completly re-design old ships or create brand new ones, I have my lot set up and ready to use as i progress threw the tech tree at pritty regular tech intervals. Easy stuff.

Whenever I use the upgrade features, it appears to me like I'm just designing a new ship. I assumed when I went to upgrade, it would open that ship design up for editing...but it does not...hmm I just delete my ships designs all the time, and use new ones each game. I'm not big on watching the cheesy battle's anyway, so my ships appearances don't need to impress me or anything.

There's a setting in the Options to allow functional components to be left alone when Upgrading a ship. Normally, the game removes all functional components when you go to upgrade.
