Where are the patch notes.

For gods sake, can't this game just put its patches out as downloads like everyone else, and can't they at least post the frickin patch notes somewhere easy to find without hiding them in some hidden space. I mean come on I paid good money for this game, this is BS.

If you have the Stardock Central application installed, then downloading the patches is very easy and the "history" button will give you the readme.

Seconded, I am near boycotting this company for this very reason.

Put a link to a download to update the software that doesn't require logins or registrations.

Had I known about all this crap 24 hours ago, I wouldn't have bought this game.

Enui71, the developers decided to forgo copy protection and instead give people more content (updates, etc) when they register the game. I like it better this way than the alternative - CD dongle "protection" with straight downloads that may or may not be posted regularly.

I don't see how it is "hidden." Just go to downloads and it is right there - "use Stardock Central to keep up to date on Galactic Civilizations II and other Stardock software."

And as to the changelog, go to "journals" and the changelog is pretty much right there.

I guess the majority of people here that bought the game are just very good at finding things that are one click away from the home page.

I don't use Stardock Central and I don't have any problems getting the patches.

Note Stardock Central's description: Use Stardock Central to keep up to date on Galactic Civilizations II and other Stardock software. Also gives you access to beta builds. It's only for beta builds. You'll be able to get 1.1 (not 1.1b) on the download page when they're done with it.

No, it isn't only for Beta Builds, phbbt107. There is a selection in Stardock Central that allows you to exclude Beta Builds.

Pnakatos is also correct - you can download non-Beta updates from here as well: Link

You still need to register, though.

First of all the updates are easy to get, I'm not arguing that, but they don't give you a good place to find the patch notes of what your downloading BEFORE you download it. The thing is, what if I see something in the patch notes I don't like and don't want to update. I can think of numerous games where I have opted not to patch due to some things they changed in the game that I didn't like. I don't want to update and then have to look at some history tab to find the patch notes, just to find out that I don't like the patch.

Whatever you want to call it, Stardock Central sucks as far as navigation is concerned. There should be a simple webpage that has the patch notes on it and it should be a navigation tab that says PATCH NOTES. It makes everything easier, simpler, and no need to search all over gods green earth for them.

Whoever put the wiki link up, thanks. This is the info I was looking for and look how easy it was for someone to put that on a web page, with clear links to what patches contain what. Simplicity is best.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Diremede, as I'm typing this, the download
has taken over an hour to complete, and it's at 170% and still going... This is
the first time that it's taken more than 100% to download a file.

As a registered user, why do I have to install another program just to get
the patches??? I don't want all that other crap that gets installed with
Stardock. All I want is to play the game that I bought. Seems like Stardock is
antoher company that has decided that it's customers need to be made to jump
through as many hurdles as possible to play the games that they
purchased.

I love the game, but I'm unistalling Stardock central (if I can, since most
programs like this are not very good at uninstalling themselves...). If I'm
unable to get the downloads without it, I guess it will be the last time I play
Galactic Civ2 (:

If I'm
unable to get the downloads without it

You don't need SDC to get productive patches: there is a download area on the GC2 website. But you need SDC to download the beta patches.

I think it is interesting that people first assume that slow download speeds and such are the fault of a particular site rather than a faulty connection. I have never had a problem with Stardock Central...

I've had GalCiv2 installed for just over a week now, and there've been two updates to this game already. That's more updates than some games ever get.

Stardock Central is a very small price to pay, but don't like it? Go back to EA.
