CivFanatics threads on GalCiv

There's been a lot of discussion about GC2 at Civfanatics the past week, I post there as Duelingground.

Game discussion thread:

2 ongoing reviews:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=160915

And finally, a petition to give GalCiv it's own subforum that is gaining momentum.

They should be talking about GCII over there because IMO it blows Civ IV away. Don't get me wrong I'm a Civ fan but I have to say overall Civ IV was a let down. It's a good game but it didn't keep my attention like Civ II and III did (or GCI). I think if more strategy gamers got to know GCII and Stardock they would abandon Civ IV, at least for awhile

I'd like to hear what Sid Meier's opinion of GCII is.

Personally, I really like Civ IV. For me it's the best one yet.

I understand the Stardock guys and the Firaxis guys chat from time to time and enjoy each others' work.

One of the craziest things for us in the office is to be visiting our regular gaming forums to find how much players outside this community are enjoying the game. For some reason, I just expect other web sites to have people trolling about about the game, but instead there seems to be a general feeling of...for lack of a better word...love flowing about the title.

It's enough to bring a tear to this game developers eye

CivFanatics is the best Civ site, IMO. Apolyton isn't bad but the format of that site is an html massacre and their forums are no better (could have the best quality content in the world but it looks terrible to me).

I've mentioned GalCiv2 a few times over there (particularly when discussions of AI came up) and had it linked in my sig.

Civ IV and GalCiv2 are both excellent - it's a great time for TBS gamers.

I'm into XCOM-esque squad based games and have had a lot of fun with UFO: Aftershock too - after a hellishly long draught of only having WoW to enjoy I'm in gaming bliss lately. Oblivion comes out the 20th...and Titan Quest soon after that. Yum! WoW is a great game but the morons that play it drive me nuts - I continually feel like my intellect is being bludgeoned with stupidity in that game - so all quality games that pull me out of WoW are very welcome!

Now we are trying to convince the mods at CivFanatics to create a sub-forum for GalCiv2!
The game really deserves to be all over the place! You guys did (and are doing) a fanatstic job!

I don't like CivIII and CivIV that much, because it's so slooooooooow. I can play an entire AOE3 game in 30 mins. In the CivIV modern era, that's one turn.

I added my two cents worth to that petition. I think both sites should have subforums for the other, because that way modders for both can see what the other is doing, and maybe get even more ideas to make both great games even better!

But first the GalCiv2 forum needs a major overhaul IMO. It's not as well organised as CivFanatics. I hope this will change soon.

I like both Civ4 and GalCiv2. They are both very good games.

I have Civ 4 on my harddrive.. It's been lonely since the release of GC2.

Agreed.

Though Gamespot has yet to publish their review, the user reviews have been almost unanimously positive, and are averaging a 9.2 rating. They currently have GalCiv ranked at #8 under PC games.

I uninstalled Civ4 the same day I bought it, but then, I have a Radeon. And yes, I bought it *after* the first (1-month) patch, and it *still* didn't work. I haven't played it since. Reminds me of Civ III (except that had *working* graphics). BTW, no offense intended to Firaxis's dev team - AFAIK, they did not choose the release date.

On the other hand, I have not played GC2 since the day...ish that I bought it, but it's still on my HDD, because A) it works and B) it seems most of the most irritating issues will be resolved fairly soon.

What does "day...ish" mean? I started playing Friday evening, and finished at 10:00am Saturday morning. So, yes - I'm waiting for patches - but I'm afraid, too. I was only able to go to bed at 10am Saturday because the game is still full of bugs and (IMO) irritants. If I am exposed to the pure, refined substance... I may die from lack of sleep.

I have a Radeon as well, 2 of them actually, a 9600 on my work PC, and a 9800XT on my home rig. CivIV runs just fine on both machines, as does GalCiv2.

But, I do sympathize with those whose machines aren't able to run either one, they're missing out on 2 great games.

Back on topic, the new GalCiv2 sub-forum is now open for business at CFC, check it out here:

Many thanks to Thunderfall and co.!
