New Ship Design - Which Other Techs?

Hey,

So...playing first game - in the Tech Tree - when you highlight a tech (Say, Mass Driver), you see what possible ship design that'll make available - but most times, naturally, you need other tech to have that design available - thing is, there's nowhere that I can see easily which other techs I would need for that specific ship design...

Hmm....so I just d/l'ed the new patch - and now, I don't even see the possible new ship design when I highlight a research!! And I can't find anywhere else where I could see what I'm missing.

Maybe you need to start a new game for that feature to work or something?

It seems to show on all techs in a new game but in saved games it is not working well. Tthe defendor is ommitted entirely as a new design in the tech tree but heck we all know when we get that one

Hey...

Yeah - just confirmed it - it's fine when you start a new game...but current game is screwed...

Also, small detail - the descriptions says "x Other Tech Required" - but actually, it is "x Tech Required Total" - including hte current one you have highlighted...(which would explain why I never found that 4th tech initially - there were only 3, including the one I was on (Mass Drivers))

Ok...so, I was wrong. There are actually 3 other Techs, but the listing only shows 2

Specifically, it's the one for the Mass Driver / Titanium Armor / Large Scale Buildings...which enables you to build a "Star xomething" type of ship. I have all 3...but don't that that ship types available to build - so I'm assuming I'm missing one...but can't find it!

Unless I'm missing something (which ain't out of the realms of possibilities).

I noticed this to and I believe I have the answer: The other variable is the miniaturization tech level you have. So if the ship you designed before fills up 35 of 36 spots but at your current miniaturization level it would be 35 of 34 spots then you can't build the ship yet until you get enough miniaturization to be able to fit everything.
