planet creation or improvment

well i was just thinking, If you were to find a system that has few planets or 5 very low class planets. would you not be able to research a tech that would allow you to mine an astroid belt that is in the system and create or improve the class of the world by adding the needed resources to that planet. So in the end you would be able to change mars into earth like since to do that all you need is to add a 1/3 of earths mass onto mars and then bombard it with ice chuncks which i would think is not that hard to find since most if not all astroids are made of ice.

I wouldnt mind seeing a tech like this in the game( of cource it would be extreamly expence and few systems would be allowed to use it becaue not all systems would be allowed to have a belt)

Most of the poor quality planets are usually at least PQ5-6. Two exceptions are Mars PQ4 and Wisp PQ3.

There are 3 techs that allow inprovement of habitable planets and it is not unusual to see a PQ6 planet eventually become a PQ 10 or more with those improvements.

Planets are sometimes improved by random events including one very rare random event that makes every planet on the map habitable. (I haven't seen it, only read about it)

What is not possible at this time is to use tech to make a zero quality planet habitable. In most games 75% of the planets are zero quality and they stay that way.

Terraforming in Galciv2 works by researching the terraforming branch of the tech tree (Planatary improvement -> Soil improvement -> Habatat improvement -> Terraforming) and each tech after Planatary improvement will add 2 or so more tiles to the planet (I think that one tile = one planet class level).

There are indeed random events that can and will transform planets, There is the full blown event which has been showcased in a recent play example, A random colonizational event in which you have a choice (Feed your peoples life force to an amplifier or leave the device alone) or a United Planets meeting where a formerly uninhabitable planet suddenly becomes a class 13 (or thereabouts).

I heard rumors of a planetary creation tech but I'm pretty sure it was scrapped...

Sometimes though a 'minor' race will popup on a previously 0 planet. Now it's 15 PQ! Can you say cannon fodder?
hehe.

That too is another way of getting good planets..

I guess its a matter of getting to them before the other civs get it
