Take Two Financial Woes?

Apparently Take Two is not a happy financial camper these days ...

If the worst happens, could this impact the release date of our beloved Gal Civ 2?

As far as I know, Take Two has nothing to do with GalCiv2. I don't know who the distributors actually are, but I don't think Take Two is one of them.

Its the same distributors as Civ 4 which I believe is Take 2 in some form (2K Games or something like that). I would love to be wrong on this ...

I guess it could potentially affect GC2s retail offering if the company went belly-up tomorrow and completely shut down. Since they're not publishing, but just acting as the distribution channel for GC2, I don't think there will be much to worry about from them even if they do get into serious trouble.

I hope it doesn't affect Stardock very much ... the GalCiv Franchise is brilliant and they deserve to make a mint and maybe branch off into merchandising products (GalCiv Lunch Boxes, Happy Meals, Lingerie). I know they have had lots of bad luck with companies that they have teamed up with and hope that the trend of bad luck doesn't continue ...

Hm. You're right, it is Take Two. It'd be kind of ironic if every single company that was in charge of getting a GalCiv game to the stores went belly up, despite the huge success of the games.

I really hope this doesn't cause lots of problems for Stardock. Of course, they've got this great electronic distribution set up, so in a pinch they could just say "Here's your serial number. Go download the game, and we'll ship the CDs to you next month if you still want them."

Take-Two is our distributor for GalCiv II, but their recent run of bad luck shouldn't affect us (or any of their other standard operations) at all.

i thought Stardock was goin to distribute it is own goods?
You betrayed us!

No No ... Stardock is PUBLISHING GalCiv 2 (making the boxes, books, promoting etc etc). Take 2 is DISTRIBUTING the game - which I think means making sure it appears in stores at the designated date. I believe Publishing is a BIG job and Distributing is a medium job - but then I often don't know what I am talking about.

As Dano said, Stardock is publishing GalCiv II and Take-Two is simply our distributor. That means they only handling manufacturing for retail copies and getting the physical copies into stores; we're doing everything else.

Self-publishing is the way to go if you can handle it!

Seeing that Brad's making jokes about TT two consecutive weeks now on Poweruser TV, it's not a big deal for Stardock I guess...
