I'm so slow

but getting a bit quicker

I am pretty new to OS customization. For a while I just played around with the programs and downloaded stuff. But, as anyone can tell you, that just isn't enough. Pretty soon the bug bites you and you want, no, you need to make something of your own. You need to make your own little pretty that you can put somewhere on your desktop, look at it and say "Cool, I made that."

I finally decided I would start to experiment, and the obvious first move was dock icons. I mean, there is some real crap in the dock icons library (don't get me wrong, there is some amazing work there as well!), so I figured I could at least pull off something like that. And I was using a somewhat obscure program that didn't have an icon in the library already, so I made my own. It didn't turn out great, but it was better than nothing. So I made a second one. It looked a little better. I experimented some more and gradually my icons started looking a little bit better (I still have a long way to go though!).

But, wow, I am slow. And while I am speeding up I still feel sluggish at it. I really want to try my hand at a Window Blind, but am worried how long that would take me. One of these days though, when I am feeling speedy, I just may have to give it a go. I just have to see how it would turn out.

But I am having fun, and finally feel like I am, in some minuscule way, becoming a part of the community. It is good.

Congratulations! You've tried far more than I ever have. Maybe someday I will attempt to make something. I'm even taking the SkinStudio classes over at Skinartistry , but I think I'm a lost cause. Keep us posted on your work. And who cares if you are slow? If you like it, then you'll practice and you'll get faster. Keep it up!

Thanks Cordelia. I have tried to follow the SkinStudio classes over there as well, but can't participate live as the time just doesn't work for me. But I am getting faster, so I think someday, just maybe, I may be able to put together my own Window Blind skin.

I thought I remembered seeing you over there on day one. I know what you mean about the time. I missed one class already because I work and I teach in the evenings. Sometimes it just gets away from me. I saw on the hobbies post that you are 3rd year medical school and have 2 children and one mroe on the way? Frankly, I do't know how you find time to skin at all. I am in awe. Good on you!

That will all come to an end soon enough. The med school I attend does things a little differently, so instead of being in my first clinical year (the busiest year of the four) I am actually doing research and did my first clinical year last year. This gives me a bit more time. It will all come to a screaching halt when June rolls around and I begin my work on the wards again. I suppose I am trying to get in as much as I can now so I have learned some good stuff for when I have a bit more free time down the road. If that ever happens again.

You're slow? I spent a full year experimenting with PSP before I attempted my first skin. (unless you count wallpapers).......

i know what you mean. i've only created one icon (and was actually posted here at WC), scrapped about four wallpapers, and an iconpackager theme. my problem is i stray away from it, get sick of seeing my own so often, then thinking it's crap after a while plus getting writers block (and putting in too many details for a small view with clarity). i can see practice being the answer but i don't know how some people release so many themes so often. dedication? love for icons and themes?

well as long as your bottom is behind your head your alright, but if your bottom isnt in front of your head you got problems! so i would guess being slow is a good thing uhh
