Galactic, Mega, and Crisis Events

Questions and, I hope, Answers

UPDATE

I'm moving this post to support because I think this may not be working as intended. My understanding is that galactic events are supposed to apply to individual civilizations. For example, the New Generation event is supposed to act on a random planet of a faction. When it is fired by the game, every faction experiences the event at the same time.

That may be working as designed, but I'm not sure.

The background for this issue is that I've been trying to trigger an event, either galactic, mega, or crisis, for a single player--which I thought was supposed to be what happened unless the proper flag is set (e.g., <TriggerGroupTargetType> AllFactions </TriggerGroupTargetType>).

So either my understanding is wrong--which may be true (and which precipitated the original post, below), or something isn't functioning as designed.

Any insight/clarification would be helpful, and I'll continue to observe this in game and post any updates as possible.

Since jumping back into GalCiv3 and doing a little modding, I've been trying to figure out events. Horemvore's events tutorial is a helpful start, for sure. I learned a few things I didn't know and got some ideas from it. If you haven't checked it out, you should.

That said, I'm still struggling to understand some of the mechanics. So, I figured I'd ask, and see if anyone from the modding community or dev team can shed light on the questions.

I'm trying to figure out how far the current events system can be stretched, and getting firm answers on some of these basics will help. I've tried to figure this out via trial and error to limited levels of certainty.

I'll number the questions and if definitive answers are provided, I'll update the post with the answers. If anyone else has questions about events that I haven't asked, I would be glad to add them to the list also.

Q1a: Do all Galactic Events affect all factions at the same time?

Q1b: Can a Galactic Event affect only one faction?

Q2: Do the AI get Mega Events, or just players?

Q3: Do the AI get Crisis Events, or just players?

Q1a - No (Some do some do not, depends on the event)

Q1b - Yes (Crisis events for example)

Q2 & Q3 - I think The AI get them same as Players. SD have a switch "OccursOncePerPlayer" which suggests every one gets them.

Updated post and moved to support forum because I am beginning to suspect events may not be working as intended.

After playing a while longer on this, I found that even galactic events with prerequisites seem to be firing for all factions at the same time if the prerequisites are met. For example, I had an event that required the Colonial form of government, and a handful of other factions had the same effect.

Again, this may be the intended behavior, but it seems odd and makes me wonder whether the AI are getting events that, for example, require governments other than what the player chooses (e.g., if I had chosen Imperial, would the AI have still gotten the Colonial event, or will the event only fire for them if it fires for me).

I hesitate bumping this post, but for my own sanity, I'd kind of like to know what the intended behavior of events is and if they are working correctly.

My hope was to create events that were triggered by anomalies, but when one player triggers an event, it seems all players get the same event. I thought this was odd--but upon closer investigation, I found that this seems to be what happens with events when normally fired.

This seems like a bug (because it suggests that the AI don't get their own events), and I hope it is--it would be really neat if an event could be called by an anomaly that effects a single player only...
