Are Habitability and Extreme Choices Linked?

I was under the impression that the choice of 'uncommon", "common", etc. for Extreme planets is directly related to the choice for Habitable planets in general. In other words, forgetting star and planet choices, if my combination yields 200 planets, and I choose "rare" for Extreme planets, I will get, say, 25 Extreme worlds. Then if I choose a higher option, I will get a larger number of extremes. My question is will either choice affect TOTAL planets, or are Habitable and Extreme totally unrelated? Do Extreme planets come off the Habitable total, or are they an addition to them, creating a different total amount? Does the choice for Habitable planets alone decide the total number of usable planets?

Wow, I hope someone understands what I'm asking. I think I confused myself, lol.

I do understand what you are asking, and have the same problem -- the interface for game setup is not clear as to whether habitable vs. extreme planet frequency are relative to each other, or to something else.

The Habitable Planets setting determines how many habitable worlds there are in total. The Extreme Planets setting then determine how many of those planets have an extreme environment.
