Pretty sure the Iridium AI just cheated itself a Relic

AI is on normal. This first screenshot shows the starbase (lower right) the Iridium created a couple turns ago harvesting the nearby manufacturing relic (middle). Sorry about the colors, I am the darker orange Krynn.

This next screenshot shows the trade screen with the Iridium.

They don't have Xeno Archeology and neither of us have any of the more advanced Precursor relic techs. As far as I can tell, the Iridium just cheated itself a relic.

The module to mine relics is available from the beginning.

What module might that be? Because my starbase above and left of the relic is a mining starbase in range of the relic and it's not mining it.

Xeno Archeology Lab it's prerequisite tech is TechTree.

And if you hover your mouse over relic, it totally shows your a tool tip about what module you must use to mine it...

Please elaborate. In the trade screen we see they had not yet researched Xeno Archeology.

If you have already researched it (i.e., you are able to mine the relic) it won't show they have it in the trade window. Why trade for a tech you already have? Techs you have in common are not shown.

Er. ignore my reply. I didn't look on your side of the Trade window

Read the tooltip for Xeno Archeology. "increases precursor research", which is to imply you have precursor research to start with, and it modifies it. You either start with being able to make a basic xeno lab for a starbase (not mining), or it is made available as overlap with a very early tech I am quite sure.

Okay, I finally see where I went wrong, but it's not entirely my fault. You do indeed have access to the Xeno Archeology Lab module from the beginning. I had incorrectly assumed this module came from the Xeno Archeology tech. Instead that tech provides the Ancient Studies Center module, which is the upgrade. I say it's not entirely my fault because the naming creates confusion. Even since early beta, I had assumed you needed to research Xeno Archeology in order to unlock the Xeno Archeology Lab. It's a logical conclusion.

Anyway, a) the Iridium didn't cheat, and b ) this changes how I will be prioritizing relics. Thanks for the help!

In the earlier betas you did have to have XA. I think they changed it about the time they changed to tech tree to include the exclusive choices.

I can actually see why you made this mistake it would seem to be intuitive that Xeno Archeology Lab module would require the Xeno Archeology tech.

They may have had it in mind at some point to work that way but then figured it would make, making a beeline for that tech too important, but it was always as it is now in the betas as far as I remember.
