[6.1] My only real gripe - Super Passive AI

So after many games of 6.1 I've generally loved the polish, performance enhancements, etc.

But the same annoyance keeps happening, the AI will not declare war on me, at least through the first 150 turns. So other than the occasional pirate attack, I don't worry about the military part of the game. I don't need weapons and defense, I just go made colony buildings because I never have to worry about the AI, ever.

This is on suicidal as a note.

They're getting less passive with each update.

I've found the Terrans to be very aggressive on the last few versions of the game, they keep declaring war on me.

I find that it has a lot to do with your military power. Aggressive or Opportunistic civilizations will declare war if they see you have none to little military strength while they do.

On insane maps it will often take some time for the AI to start building military ships since there are so many planets and resources to colonize, that is why there are not many wars early on... no one has any military to speak of.

The AI won't declare war on you, generally, unless its mainline ships can reach you.

ahhhh, the problems with AI.  AI is all if X, then y.  Humans follow this too but harder to predict!!  Good to know that if I can avoid the X (keeping AI mainline ships out of reach), then I dont have to worry about Y (declaration of war).  A preemptive declaration of war may get me to waste time and resources on military things since for all I know, the AI has mega fleets just beyond sensor range...

Specify.  Reach you in how many turns?  Or if you are or are not in life support / sensor range?  Or if a certain threashold percentage of your planets and ships are "in range" of the AI?

I often will not even research a military tech until turn 70, and still have not had a war declaration. I'm playing on huge maps right now (was doing medium for awhile). The races are close enough for me to culture flip them, so I think they are close enough for war!

But Frogboy sounds like he is working on it.
