Still cant "remove" stock ship designs.

I hit obsolete and delete and the ships come back into the list each time i hit end turn. Ive got cloud disabled and i made a previous thread and didnt get much of a response. Please help me as this is so annoying.

I don't want to speak for the developers intentions, but these are my thoughts:

The stock[M-1, M-2, etc.] ships are not meant to be made obsolete as they update themselves to the best M version available[and should be deleting the previous M version from the list].

You can't delete the most recent M version, as things like Ideology achievements are tied to your latest M version.

Now for player designed ships, an obsolete option makes sense.  It will delete the ship from your list in the current game, but will re-insert the design as soon as the tech[actually before all the pre-requisite techs; seperate issue/bug] allows it to be created in your next play-through with that race/faction.

Note/Tip: If you don't use the M versions very often, you can select the "USER" tab in the ship yard and it'll move M versions to the very bottom of the ship list.

----

Aside from that, if user made ships are re-inserting themselves onto your ship list after being made "Obsolete" within the same game, send a report.  That shouldn't happen as far as I know.

If I understand it right, there is a mechanic involved where ships found/rewarded are taken from your list of stock designs, so when you find a scout on your first anomaly, the tech level of it is generally what you could make with your current tech, or the minimum standard for that class of ship. So for example if you pick the Benevolent Outreach 1, you get a free colony ship. that ship is going to be different if you colonise Mars round one or get it fifty turns in after researching ion drives. The Flipside is that the system must maintain the most up to date generic versions of all potential ships based on your current tech. So when you obsolete all those tiny frame warships, you will immediately get them back once you learn a new tech that could make them better in any of the base ways set for that class, and the list repopulates.

In this current build, obsoleting doesn't obsolete all of that 'class' of ship for if you NEVER intend to build an Explorer or Sniper. An option to do such would be handy in future.

A related error is if you try to upgrade a cargo frame vessel later in the game, the list of what to upgrade to is dominated by scores of identical colony ship builds.

Thank you for reporting this, we will be looking into what is going on with this feature on the dev side.

Can we just have better filters?

Rather than moving the ships to the bottom of the list...  can Selecting the User filter only show us designs we have made.

Or perhaps can we have an "active" filter that only shows us designs we have currently in our fleets.

I would much prefer a Filter feature rather than the current sort feature.

I recall Paul saying in one of the dev streams that it would be turned to a filter rather than a sort, but this has yet to happen. It might never-- I'm beginning to think that the devs don't see anything wrong with wading through a gigantic list with Bomber M9128374 etc.

I think they do care, but it's not game-breaking in any way, and there's a lot of other things that are right now.  I still think it's likely they'll re-visit it if they have time before release, inferring from the dev stream.  They know it's a problem.

I agree that getting rid of the default designs permanently would be a bad thing; but....

Is there anyway to permanently delete a design I made?

I've got about four versions of the same design that I worked on and I only want to keep one of them.

Granted I can just make them obsolete each time I start a new game; but I'd like to get rid of them permanently.  If I keep using the ship designer I can see the interface getting really clogged up with old designs if we can't get rid of them permanently.

Go to My Documents/My Games/GCIII/ designs and you will find your personal designs that can be deleted. There is no way to do it in game

I am pretty sure I have the location right but you get the picture.

How hard would it be to make an options choice of "Disable Stock Designs?"

I know they have other priorities, but it seems like it should be a very easy tweak.

I do respect that they went to the effort of creating all these designs, but, once you've figured out how to design ships, you can make ships that are much better designed for your style of play. Unfortunately, fifty times a game, a new researched technology ends a lot of extra ships that crowd out your own choices and becomes a nuisance when choosing ships.

Just a repeated annoyance.
